There are two waterfalls named Wailua Falls in Hawaii. Both are beautiful scenic waterfalls and both are very popular tourist attractions in Hawaii because both are easily accessed. This article is about the Wailua Falls located on the island of Maui.

The other Wailua Falls is located on the Garden Island of Kauai and is more famous because it was featured in the opening credits of the Fantasy Island TV show which aired in the late 1970's and early 1980's. The Wailua Falls on Maui is located right along the Hana Highway also known as Highway 31. Wailua Falls is located along Honolewa Stream just past mile marker 45 right before Highway 31 enters Haleakala National Park. The Hana Highway passes over Honolewa Stream and then there is a parking lot for Wailua Falls. This is a very popular waterfall tourist attraction along Hana Highway.

Wailua Falls drops 200 feet here right down a cliff face. The water at Wailua Falls pretty much flows over the cliff face at the top but a little over half way down the cliff face juts out a little and from then on the water just cascades right down the face. The result is a fine mist spray which can cool one off on hot days.

The vegetation around Wailua Fall is thick and even though this waterfall is right along the Hana Highway it has the look of a real wild jungle waterfall. Like something out of a King Kong, Jurassic Park or some other wild jungle movie. In contrast the Wailue Falls on Kauai drops just 80 feet and flows over the cliff face like a spout rather than down the cliff face (see photo above).

Wailue Falls on the island of Maui in Hawaii is an easily accessed beautiful scenic waterfall that is a pleasant stop for any and all tourists driving the famed Hana Highway.
