Sol Duc Falls is a beautiful scenic waterfall located in the Pacific Northwest in Olympic National Park on the Olympic Peninsula in northwest Washington. Sol Duc Falls is one of the most popular and visited waterfalls in the state of Washington.

At Sol Duc Falls the water from the Sol Duc River drops 25 beautiful feet down a cliff face from two or three spouts into a small rocky canyon or gorge and then abruptly turns and goes down a flume before dropping another 10 feet. The whole surrounding area is filled with old growth forest and lush green vegetation creating a magical contrasting scene as the water flows over Sol Duc Falls.

Sol Duc is a Native American Indian term meaning sparkling waters. The term certainly fits at Sol Duc Falls as the water looks pristine and sparkles as it plunges into the small green canyon below.

At Sol Duc Falls the National Park Service has constructed a number of different viewing platforms and spots including a wooden log bridge over the small canyon above the falls. So visitors to falls can view Sol Duc Falls from many different angles and perspectives.

In order to view Sol Duc Falls visitors have to hike a short trail that is less than a mile long. The trailhead is located at the end of Sol Duc Hot Springs Road which can reached off Highway 101 also called the Olympic Highway about 18 miles west of Port Angeles. From Highway 101 it's another 12 to 13 miles to the end of of Sol Duc Hot Springs Road. Sol Duc Falls is a very popular waterfall in Washington and visitors will likely have to share the trail and beautiful scenic waterfalls with other hikers but it's well worth the trip.
