Looking Glass Falls is a beautiful scenic 60 foot high waterfall located in western North Carolina about 7 miles northwest of Brevard and 30 miles south of Asheville. Looking Galls Falls is in the Pisgah National Forest about 5 miles north of the south entrance along Highway 276. The south entrance is located where Highways 276, 64 and 280 converge just north of Brevard, NC.

This beautiful waterfall is a very popular attraction in North Carolina in large part because it is located right along Highway 276 in Pisgah National Forest. There is a paved parking lane for Looking Glass Falls on the north side of the highway. The falls is visible right from the highway and there is a paved and wheelchair accessible walkway leading to the falls.

The name Looking Glass Falls is either a reference to the how the falls reflect sunlight like a mirror when they are frozen over in winter or how nearby Looking Glass Rock takes on the appearance of a giant mirror when sunlight hits water frozen on it in winter.

When water flow is not too heavy at Looking Glass Falls the pool below the falls also takes on the appearance of a mirror reflecting the falls and scenery. The water at Looking Glass Falls flows from Looking Glass Creek.

The pool below the falls is also open for swimming but be warned the water is almost always cold. Also be warned that people have been injured and died at Looking Glass Falls by falling from the top of the cliff and others by foolishly leaping from the top into the plunge pool.

Nobody really knows how many people visit Looking Glass Falls each year but the number of visitors has to be very high. Over 1 million people visit the Biltmore Estate located about 30 miles north of the falls in Asheville. So this beautiful part of North Carolina attracts many visitors every year. Anyone visiting Biltmore which is the largest home in the United States might also consider a quick side-trip to beautiful scenic and popular Looking Glass Falls.
