What is Freelancer.com?

In these times of economic struggle, many are trying to earn extra money, or even a full-time income, working from home. Some people have success with PTC sites, or forums where they are paid for posting, or for discussions, but making large amounts with these sites can involve risk. Some prefer to write for content sites such as Helium, and it is possible to earn a full-time income for this site, as well.

Once you've had some success writing on the internet, you may think that it is time to move up. Perhaps someone needs a book written for him, or a writer needs her work edited, and would hire you on a per-project basis. That way, you wouldn't have to wait for page view income to roll in, or count on the tiny upfront payments that you can squeeze from certain content sites if you are very talented and persistant. If you already write for Freelancer.com, you might want to read this article: How to Win Bids on Freelancer.com.

What is Freelancer.com?

Freelancer.com, formerly getafreelancer.com, is a place for employers who want to outsource jobs cheaply. It is therefore also a place where those who have services to offer can bid upon jobs and earn money by programming, writing, editing, or doing hundreds of other things.

At freelancer.com, you can sign up for a free account that allows you to bid on 30 jobs per month. With a free account, ten percent of your earnings will go to freelancer.com as fees. Alternatively, for $24.95 per month, you can become a gold member, be allowed to bid on 150 jobs per month, with the ability to win extra bids, and freelancer.com will only take three percent of your earnings. If you hate math, the break-even point is around $290. So, if you're making about $300 a month or more, it becomes worth it for you to pay for the gold membership.

Freelancer.com is easier to use than elance and odesk. However, the easier a site is to use, the lower the quality of work (and therefore the pay) tends to be. If you comb through freelancer.com there are some higher paying jobs available, but it takes some work to find them.

Success with freelancer.com depends on checking for good jobs daily, building up good reviews from employers, and using your bids well. If used properly, freelancer.com can help you earn extra money or help you towards your goal of working from home.
