Varieties of Apples: "An" to "Az"

Ananas Reinette

The Ananas Reinette apple originated in the Netherlands in 1821 and is in season from November to January. It is medium in size and has brown freckles on golden skin. It grows on a small tree and will fit in a small garden.

Anderson Jonathan

Not much is known about the Anderson Jonathan apple excepts that it comes from the Sport of Jonathan.

Anna

The Anna apple is from Israel and is yellow with a reddish blush to it. This apple keeps in the refrigerator for two months.

Antonovka

The Antonovka apple is of Russian descent and is in season from September to November.

Api Etoile

The Api Etoile is also known as the Star Lady apple and originated in Switzerland in the 1600's. This apple is truly unique as it is not round like other apples. It has a flattened shape that resembles a rounded star. Despite its unusual appearance, it has a sweet smelling aroma and a fruity flavor.

Arkansas Black

The Arkansas Black is estimated to have originated in Benton County, Arkansas around 1870. It harvests in late October to November and is one of the most beautiful of apples. It is medium in size and has a smooth texture. The dark purple fruits turn black at maturity. An ideal variety for making cider.

Aroma

The Aroma apple is from 1973 Sweden and is in season in October. This variety of apple is not very popular as it has a weakened, watery taste.

Aromatic Russet

The Aromatic Russet originates from England and is in season from November to January. This bright red apple has a sharp, sweet taste and aroma.

Ashmead's Kernel

The Ashmead's Kernel is from 1730 England and is in season from December to February. This apple is considered to be high quality. It has a bright green color with orange blush.

Aurora Golden Gala

The Aurora Golden Gala may also be known as simply Aurora. It comes from Summerland, British Columbia, Canada.

Austin Apple

The Austin apple harvests in late September and is in season during October. It is a dull red color with golden-brown freckles throughout.

Autumn Gold

The Autumn Gold is a chance seedling from Tieton, Washington. It is bright red over a yellow-green base. Although it harvests just two weeks after the Golden Delicious, it keeps better.

Autumn Pearmain

The Autumn Pearmain is a mystery apple and all that is known is that it harvests during mid-season.

With so many different varieties of apples, you could eat one a day for the rest of your life and never repeat.
