There are hundreds of varities of apples and people are creating even more as we speak. This article has to do with all the varities of apples that start with the letters "A" to "Am."
Aceymac
The Aceyman apple originates from New York and is in season in mid-September. This apple resembles the McIntosh in taste and appearance, however it is firmer.
Adams Pearmain
The Adams Pearmain apple is also known as the Norfolk Pippin or the Hanging Pearmain. It is estimated that it was created in Herefordshire, England in 1826. It is harvested during early to mid-October with it being in season from November to March. The Adams Pearmain apple is conical shaped with a red stripe on a yellow background. The flesh is firm and crisp with a nutty taste. The tree it grows on is hardy with a resistance to scab.
Adanac
The Adanac apple originated in Battleford and is medium in size. It has a yellowish-greenish color with a red stripe. This type of apple is great for dessert dishes, such as apple pies. Adanac spelled backwards is Canada.
Akane
The Akane apple is also known as the Prime Red apple and the Tokyo Rose apple. It originated in 1970 and harvest time is late Augest to early September. This apple is round and bright red with a tart flavor. It is one of the apple varities that keep well.
Akero
The Akero apple originated in Sweden in the 1600's or 1700's. Harvest time is late August and it is one of the oldest Swedish apples. Despite how long it has been around, it is still one of the favorites of Swedes due to its sweet taste.
Akifu Fuji
Not much is known about the Akifu Fuji apple.
Albany Beauty
The Albany Beauty apple is related to the Gravenstein apple, except that it is red skinned.
Alexander
The Alexander apple is also called Great Alexander and was introduced to England in 1805, although experts suggest it is actually from the Ukraine as early as 1700. It is in season from late September to mid-October. It is ideal for cooking and is very large with pale greenish-yellowish skin streaked with red or orange in the sun.
Alfriston
The Alfriston apple comes from the late-1700's Sussex England. It is a very large green apple that is ideal for cooking.
Alkmene
The Alkmene apple is in season in mid-September. It is a good multi-purpose apple with a crisp, juicy flavor. This apple is bright red, but does not keep well.
Allington Pippin
The Allington Pippin apple is from the United Kingdom and originated in 1894. It is medium in size with a conic shape. It is green or yellow with light reddish stripes. Very acidic taste.
Almata
The Almata apple originated in South Dakota and harvests at the end of August. It is a small apple with a dull red color. The flesh of this apple is also red and tastes sour.
Ambrosia
The Ambrosia apple is a variety that was genetically engineered by the United States. It is very crisp and has a very high sugar content.
American Summer Pearmain
The American Summer Pearmain originated in the United States in the early 1800's. It is in season from August to September. It is medium in size with a yellowish-greenish color streaked with red or purple.
As you can see, not all apples are created the same. Each have unique looks, uses, and tastes.
