Science fiction texts can reveal a great deal about contemporary society when subjected to systematic academic analysis. For example, technological change in the twentieth century can be charted by examining sci-fi films, TV products, novels and comic books. How are contemporary trends are extrapolated and projected into future environments and what can this reveal about society?  I would suggest that you take in SF films when you get the opportunity.
