Garlic has the ability to thin the blood and reduce blood clots just how aspirin works. However, it has been recommended that those taking garlic supplements should stop having garlic a few weeks before and after any type of surgery.
2) Hawthorn
Hawthorn is a type of herb that is used traditionally for high blood pressure. A study was undertaken on 71% of the patients who were taking 1200mg of hawthorn for 16 weeks. Once 16 weeks was over, patients who had taken hawthorn had a great reduction in mean diastolic pressure.
3) Fish Oil
One of the benefits of fish oil is how it can lower high blood pressure. The reason how fish oil can lower blood pressure is due to the presence of omega-3 fatty acids. A study was taken with 120 men who suffered moderate cardiovascular risks. They were separated into a number of groups having low fat diet or a high fat diet.
Those in the high fat diet group were asked to choose one task out of a proportion. These tasks include:
- Take 6-12 fish oil capsules daily
- Eat fish
- Take placebo capsules
- Eat fish and fish oil
The low fat diet group were also asked to choose one task. These include:
- Eat fish
- Take placebo capsules
There were a diverse number of measurements taken with both the groups. Some of these include:
- Blood pressure
- Weight
- Heart rate
- Blood glucose
Once the study was completed, the researchers had discovered that both systolic and diastolic pressures had dropped significantly on those who consumed fish or fish oil.
4) Folic Acid
Folic acid has many benefits and one of those benefits is the ability to lower blood pressure. Previous data was seen on 156,000 nurses and results showed that those nurses who eat less folic acid had greater risks of having high blood pressure. Other findings also showed that young women who eat at least 1mg of folic acid a day could reduce high blood pressure risks as much as 46%. Older women had an 18% reduced risk of having high blood pressure.
5) Dieting
Dieting is an excellent natural remedy for lowering your blood pressure. Many diets consist of fruits, vegetables, meats, grains, low fat dairy, nuts, seeds, dry beans and sweets.
