Beautiful Landmark Towers in Northern California

All these beautiful towers in Northern California are landmarks and one of these sites is one of the most well known and photographed architecural structures in the world. Many of these landmark towers have observation decks offering fantastic views to visitors and another tower in Northern California is actually a giant sundial. All these beautiful landmark towers in Northern California are great places to visit.

Campanile or Sather Tower in Berkeley

Located on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley beateen Hearst Street and Bancroft Way is the 307 foot tall Campanile also known as the Sather Tower. This historic landmark tower was built in 1914 and contains a 61 bell carillon which chimes on the hour. The Campanile or Sather Tower also allows visitors to climb stairs or ride an elevator to an observation deck where offering beautiful views of San Francisco, Oakland and the Golden Gate Bridge.

The beautiful Golden Gate Bridge is anchored by two main towers that are each 746 feet high. The towers and the bridge are recognized around the world and the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most photographed and picturesque structures in the world today.

Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco

Coit Tower is a 210 foot tall Art Deco landmark tower that is located on top of Telegraph Hill which rises near the east end of Lombard Street in San Francisco, California. Coit Tower was given to the city as a gift from eccentric philanthropist Lillie Hitchcock Coit in 1933. From the observation deck on top of the tower visitors are treated to magnificent views of San Francisco and its well known landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street and Alcatraz. This tower can get very busy at times so be forewarned.

The Stanford clock Tower is located on the campus of Stanford University at the corner of Escondido and Lasuen Malls in Stanford, California. The Stanford Clock Tower was built from a donation by Trustee William Kimball in 1983 and houses a mechanical clock that dates back to 1901 as well as chimes that ring on the hour.

Located at 550 Serra Mall on the campus of Stanford University is the 285 foot tall Hoover Tower in Stanford, California. Built in 1941 the Hoover Tower contains a 48 bell carillon. Visitors are allowed to go up to the 250 foot high observation deck daily except for when the bells are ringing.

Tribune Tower in Oakland

The Tribune Tower is a 305 foot tall building built in 1923 that housed the Oakland Tribune newspaper until the tower was damaged in the 1989 earthquake that rattled the area. Since then the Tribune Tower has been restored and today is a landmark building along the Oakland city skyline.

Sutro Tower in San Francisco

Sutro Tower is a 977 foot tall three-pronged antenna tower that looks like something out of a Transformers movie located on top of Clarendon Heights in San Francisco. Built for TV reception from 1971-1973 Sutro Tower is jointly owned by the biggest TV stations in San Francisco and was named for a former mayor of San Francisco Adolph Sutro who owned a mansion next to the tower. Sutro Tower is a landmark in San Francisco and the tallest structure in the city today.

Sundial Bridge Tower at Turtle Bay in Redding

The unique Sundial Bridge Tower is 217 feet high and anchors the cantilever spar cable-stayed Sundial Bridge over the Sacramento River in Redding, California. The Sundial Bridge Tower is angled 42 degrees to the north and also serves as giant sundial casting its shadow on a large dial north of the bridge though it is not an accurate measure of time. The Sundial Bridge Tower is a landmark in Redding and did you know that Redding is the sunniest city in California?
