Tips on Proposing Marriage
EducationTips on Proposing Marriage
The way you propose to the person whom you love is a moment you will both remember for the rest of your lives. You want to make sure that, when asked by your future grandchildren, you have a romantic and unique story of how your engagement started. A proposal can be a traditional dinner for two or a creative and surprising adventure, it’s all up to you and your loved ones personality, style and the tone of your relationship.
Romantic Dinner
There is nothing wrong with falling back on the traditional romantic dinner for two as your proposal setting. Where you are and what you are doing is less important than the sentiment you are trying to express. However, when deciding on where your romantic dinner should take place, keep a couple things in mind. Does your soon-to-be fiancé like being in the spotlight, or would a public proposal embarrass her? Once you decide that a public proposal would be appropriate, the restaurant you choose is your next big obstacle.
For some, the choice of proposal venue is easy. It can be the site of your first date, favorite weekly date spot or the restaurant you were in when you realized you loved her. This is going to be one of the most important dinners out of your life, the setting should be perfect.
Adventure Proposal
On the other end of the tradition spectrum is the concept of the adventure proposal. If you and your significant other enjoy going on thrilling adventures together, this could be the perfect way to propose. Imagine standing on a bridge with your girl or boyfriend preparing to bungee jump and popping the question before you take the plunge. Symbolic, romantic and exciting, an adventure proposal is sure to be memorable. Something to keep in mind, though, is that jumping off of a bridge or from an airplane with an expensive diamond engagement ring may not be the most logical of choices. Consider proposing without the ring and then presenting it to your new fiancé after your adventure is complete.
Get Creative
There are several ways you can get creative with your marriage proposal. A scavenger hunt, for example, is a fun and unique way to propose marriage. Your hopeful fiancé will follow a series of clues before finding you, with the ring, asking to marry him or her. Another creative idea is to hide the ring with a note somewhere your significant other is bound to find it at the end of their day. Tucked inside his or her favorite pair of slippers, for example, is a great way to do that.
The way you choose to propose to your future spouse is secondary to the love you feel for them and the promise of a lifetime together. Be prepared for tears, disbelief and an uncontrollable outpouring of happiness.
