Writing articles can offer decent remuneration if the subject matter is hot, search engine optimization is mindfully considered, and the article itself is produced in a professional manner. The art of crafting an effective article usually comes with experience, along with basic knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling. However, there are basic guidelines new writers, and those who wish to improve their work, can choose to follow.

A good article begins with a good subject matter. The best subject to chose will be one which is currently popular in the news, or has long term value. Popular topics can range from information about celebrities, to advice about an ongoing health scare people are concerned to learn more about. Subjects with short term, although instant value, can also relate to celebrations coinciding with the time of the year, such as Christmas or Easter.

Subjects with long term value are those which people are interested in generally, and which offer useful or interesting information. Advice on debt reduction, how to make money, or how to deal with depression is usually highly sort after, as many people search for related information on the Internet.

Search engine optimization

SEO, otherwise as search engine optimization in writing refers to crafting articles which are likely to get picked up by relevant engines, such as Google. By using appropriate keywords, and dispersing them at regular intervals throughout an article, a writers work is more likely to show up when someone searches for similar information, and types the same keywords into their search facility on their computer.

Producing a professional article

Articles which command a good following, and therefore readership, tend to belong to writers who know how to craft an article so that it's easy on the eye, and delivers information with clarity and consistency. An article should be structured so that it provides readers with a sense of continuity, having first given an introduction to the topic at hand, and before finishing with a recap or summary of the body of information contained within the article.

It can help if new writers think of an article as a story, which has a beginning, a middle and an end. The beginning should make readers want to continue reading. This is accomplished when a writer gives a hint about interesting information to come.

The middle of an article should contain the main body, or meat, of the writing. In this section the most important information is given, including in depth descriptions where applicable. The meat of the writing should be fulfilling and satisfying for the reader, just like a great meal.

The end of an article needs to remind the reader about the information they've just consumed, so that they remember it, and hopefully are tempted to seek out more work by the same author.

When a writer researches information to use in their articles, they need to give the original creator of the information credit, by letting readers know where they gained the information. This can be achieved by the use of embedded links within the body of an article which direct readers to the source of used information. Or, references may be added underneath an article, after its ending.

There is, of course, much more involved in writing a great article, but the above tips can help guide individuals who feel they need to learn the basics involved. By choosing a good topic to write about, spending some time developing decent SEO, and by being mindful about making work smooth and professional, writers can gain readership, and produce good quality work they are proud of.
