We overlook the health benefits of sunlight in our lives and forget that sunlight plays a significant role in nourishing and energizing our bodies. Getting a sufficient amount of sunlight helps to prevent chronic ailments and aging disorders since the sun is a natural medicinal source with healing qualities. Translation is that a healthy lifestyle needs to include sunlight in moderation.

Major Benefits from Sunlight

One of the major benefits of sunlight is that it provides our body with a natural supply of vitamin D, which helps our bodies to absorb calcium. We all know that vitamin D is necessary for stronger bones, no matter what age and that sunlight plays a vital role in the prevention vitamin D or calcium deficiency .

Ever wonder how the sunlight works in the production of vitamin D?  As the sunlight penetrates the skin, there are organic molecules related to steroids under the skin, which are activated by the sunlight. The ultraviolet rays start the process and the molecules begin converting themselves into vitamin D.

Sufficient amounts of vitamin D in our bodies help to lower the cholesterol in the blood.  All it takes is 10 minutes a day to maintain the correct amounts of vitamin D that our bodies require.  Sunlight also helps to promote a healthier nervous system by increasing the production of endorphins in the brains.

Health Benefits from Sunlight

As nature's best healer, sunlight helps with the prevention of infections by killing bacteria when our bodies are injured.  It boosts the immune system by increasing the white blood cell counts, which is what we need to fight viruses and germs.  It also increases the red blood cells which carry oxygen throughout our systems.  It doesn't stop there, the sunlight makes provisions for a healthy heart  by enabling the body to lower its pulse rate and decrease hypertension.

Getting enough sunlight during the day can even help you sleep better at night.  Exposing yourself to natural light during the day increases your melatonin which is a natural hormone made by our bodies.  Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland which is the size of a pea and located in the center of the brain.  It regulates the sleep and wake cycles causing a drowsiness when we are tired and it lowers our body temperature causing our bodies to relax.  It also slows down the aging process.

Other benefits from sunlight

  • Cardiovascular systems are strengthened
  • Blood pressure is controlled
  • Blood sugar is stabilized
  • Metabolism increases to assist with weight loss
  • Proper function of kidneys and liver improve digestion
  • Cheers you up
