Arts and crafts for Thanksgiving relate to the themes of the holiday, one of them being "giving thanks". It doesn't really matter who you are thanking, whether it be a God, luck or the universe in general for sending your way some goodness. Here is a craft project that is easy and doesn't take long to make; it also makes a nice house decoration for the holiday and a focus point for any gathering.

Thanksgiving is that strange holiday that they celebrate in North America that the rest of the world doesn't know much about, and yet the word itself is very inspiring. Apart from the historic significance of Thanksgiving the idea of having a day when you simply take a moment to give thanks for all that is good should be adopted by all mankind. We have much to be thankful for, who ever we are and what ever our circumstance there is always something to be thankful for.

This Thanksgiving craft project is open to interpretation. You can use any colors you want to, and make as many variations as you wish.

What you will need:

A dry tree branch any where from 12 inches to 46 inches high.

Glue

Glitter (you choose the color)

Sand

A plant pot or container

A role of ribbon; you can use material ribbon or the synthetic paper/plastic type. You can also choose whether to use only green ribbon or a variety of colors.

Indelible black pens; pens that won't run when used on ribbon.

How to make the Thanksgiving Tree:

Fill the plant pot/container with sand, and "plant" the branch in the sand.

Paint the branch with glue.

Cover the branch with glitter.

That is the tree done, now for the leaves. The leaves are prepared and left on the table next to the tree with a sign explaining to your friends and family what to do.

Simply cut the ribbon into strips about 12inches long.

Leave a sign next to the tree and ribbons saying something to the effect of:

"On this day of Thanksgiving we all have something to be thankful for. Please share with us what you are thankful for in your life. Write what you are thankful for on one of the ribbons and tie it to one of the tree branches.

Happy Thanksgiving."

You can take this Thanksgiving craft project one step further and read out each of the ribbons after dinner. Interestingly enough you will find that other people will give thanks for things that you could also be thankful for, but perhaps take for granted.
