From college professors to kindergarten teachers — there is a wide range of educators who usually qualify for a teacher discount. Sometimes, even librarians can quality for a discount as well. Just remember, a lot of the discounts are for educators that are actively working. 

How Do You Get Teacher Discounts?

In order to get a discount, you just need to show your school or university identification card or your teaching certificate. Usually, this is all you need. However, in some cases, retailers will need you to prove your membership with the National Education Association or a teachers union.

  • Call ahead  — Make sure to call ahead and check on your eligibility and what proof of identification document you need to show. You might also want to call ahead to check if a retailer has a teacher discount even if they aren’t advertising it. A lot of companies have a teacher discount and you may not even be aware of it. 
  • Discounts vary by location — There isn’t a one size fits all teacher discount. The percentage off or discounted price will vary depending on location. Even 
  • Don’t overlook National Education Association discounts — some retailers will give you a discount if you are a member of the NEA.
