Commitment Phobia
The word commitment causes intense emotional turmoil. Some men, if not most of them, find it hard to give up their freedom. It has always been said that there are two things that terrify men: Commitment and Marriage. But there are also women who are wary of commitment and marriage. More and more women opt for an open relationship or prepare themselves for a life of single blessedness.
Studies show that women who shy away from commitment have the following reasons for doing so:
- Past experience. Women who are still being hunted by the "ghosts" of the past relationship are not quite ready for another commitment. According to psychologist, they may have this notion that getting into another commitment would be an exhaustive emotional and mental roller-coaster rise, and the mere thought about it is enough for them to shy away from it.
- Good as it gets. The single life is as good as it gets. Some women find it annoying to ask permission from their partners to do things that they have gotten used to doing on their own like going out with their female friends or enjoying dinner with their male buddies.
- Choose career. A woman's best friend is her career. According to a career woman, she finds it hard to make commitment at this point of her life because of her career. She feels that a serious relationship would distract her from her pursuit of excellence. Therefore women who prioritize their ascent up the corporate ladder or those who strive to be outstanding in their fields will set aside their relationship.
- All in family. According to a freelance writer and account executive though presently involved with someone, still has second thought about committing herself to a man. She revealed that she is faithful to her boyfriend but her priority is her family, with her being a bread winner she know that she is being unfair but admits that she might just have to break it to her boyfriend soon. She believed that its better to tell him than keep him in the dark. She explains that she don't know what's the thought of commitment that makes her hesitant about it.
