Chek Lap Kok Island gave it's name to the new Hong Kong International Airport ( HKIA ) in 1998.
The airport is the official primary hub for Cathay Pacific Airways,Dragonair, Hong Kong Express Airways, Hong Kong Airlines and Air Hong Kong as well as a rekowned stopover point for travellers with Air New Zealand, Quantas and Virgin Atlantic and the second busiest cargo airport in the world.
The airport serves 90 airlines which cover 150 city destinations, including 40 in mainland China ( PRC ) and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Because of it's island location, the airport has several modes of transportation for carrying it's passengers into neighbouring Kowloon, Hong Kong and mainland China.
The airport complex is located next to the SkyCity and Asia World - Expo developements, which house 3 hotels, conference centres, entertainment venues, shopping malls, cinemas and the Nine Eagles Golf Course.
For transport within the airport complex there are free shuttle buses, the airport express - MTR - ( a charge is made for this service. ) or automatic people carrier, a free to use, driverless train with stations at Terminals 1 and 2 and SkyCity / Asia World - Expo.
For those overnighting at Chek Lap Kok, there are 3 hotels situated within the limits of SkyCity, which are part of the airport's Terminal 2 complex, which can be accessed by shuttle bus or airport express from terminal 1.

The Chek Lap Kok Airport ( HKIA ) Hotels are -
The 5 Star - Hong Kong SkyCity Marriot Hotel. Situated on SkyCity Road East.
The 5 Star - Novotel Hong Kong Citygate. Situated on Man Tung Road.
The 4 Star - Royal Airport Hotel. Situated on Cheong Tat Road.
Two hotels are situated at Hong Kong Disneyland on Lantau Island, the 5 star Disney Hollywood Hotel and the 4 Star Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
The airport provides a Trans Island China link, coach service to mainland China, and a hotel link, coach service and a private limousine service that serves 60+ hotels in Kowloon and 40+ hotels in Hong Kong.
Reservations for these services can be made at Hall A Counter, opposite Exit A in Terminal 1 Arrivals Hall for limousine hire and Hall B Counter opposite Exit B for Trans Island China Link and Hotelink coaches.
Prices are from HK$ 150.00 for Honk Kong hotelink and HK$ 130.00 for Kowloon hotelink.

SHUTTLE BUSES / COACHES.
The bus and coach terminus is situated on Cheong Tat Road situated outside the arrivals hall main entrance at the north end of Terminal 2.
The shuttle bus service is operated by CityBus services which operates single and double decker buses in a yellow livery and the Long Win Bus Company, which operates single and double decker buses in an orange and white livery.
CityBus have 23 routes and Long Win have 19 routes into Hong Kong, via Kowloon, whose routes are identified by the initials, A,E, and S. For services after midnight until 05.00 hrs, use service route N.
Service route R serves Hong Kong Disneyland, or take any A or E bus to Lantau Link Plaza and change there for service route R8.
Most routes from the airport complex into Kowloon or Hong Kong are under HK$ 30.00 and can be paid for by way of the Octopus smart card payment system, for details please visit this website octopus.com.hk/home/en/index.
Also situated here is the coach station and coach ticket points for coach services to 115 Chinese cities and towns operated by five different coach companies.

FERRY SERVICES.
Situated at Sky Pier at SkyCity, is situated the airport Ferry terminus for cross boundary ferries to 8 port cities along the Pearl River Delta, including Dongguan, Guangzhou and Macau.
The ferry terminal is accessed before customs, for people who are making onbound journeys and do not require entry into Hong Kong.
The Sky Pier is part of the SkyCity complex located at the airport's Terminal 2 building, which can be accessed by way of a shuttle bus which has free porterage services, free automatic people carrier or airport express ( a charge for this service will be made ) from Terminal 1.
Ferry journey details from Sky Pier are -
Dongguan - 90 minutes. X 5 ferries daily.Departing 10.30, 12.30, 14.00, 16.30 + 18.15.
Guangzhou - 60 minutes. X 2 ferries daily. Departing 11.40 + 16.00.
Macau Taipa - 50 minutes. X 7 ferries daily. Departing between 09.15 + 21.40.
Macau Maritime - 50 minutes. X 15 ferries daily. Departing between 10.20 + 22.00.
Shenzen Fuyong - 40 minutes. X 8 ferries daily.Departing between 10.15 + 20.00.
Shenzen Shekou - 40 minutes. X 14 ferries daily.Departing between 09.00 + 21.20.
Zhongshan - 70 minutes. X 1 ferry daily. Departs 15.40.
Zhuhai - 50 minutes. X 4 ferries daily. Departing at 12.15, 14.05, 17.00 + 20.00.

AIRPORT EXPRESS TRAIN SERVICES ( MTR).
The Airport Express ( MTR ) is a premium fare express train service from the airport into Hong Kong via Kowloon which is part of the Mass Transit Railway system of Hong Kong.
The express takes 24 minutes to make the 35 km journey HKIA to Hong Kong, travelling at speeds of upto 130 kmh.
The MTR runs daily from 05.50 - 01.15 and departs every 20 minutes.
The express has been designed with wide seats and plenty of luggage storage, for ease of use by passengers.
The express has five stations located at Asia World - Expo, the Airport, Kowloon, Hong Kong and Hong Kong Central.
Hong Kong Island is accessed by way of three large bridges that span the Kap Shui Mun, Rambler and Ma Wan Channels.
Fares for this service from the HKIA to Hong Kong Central are HK$ 100.00 / £8.00 Sterling / US$ 13.00/ 9 Euros / A$12.48 ( As of April 2011).
For access to Hong Kong Disneyland take the MTR from the airport station to Kowloon station, and change there to the Tung Chung Line and travel to Tsing Yi station. At Tsing Yi station go to platform 3 for the Hong Kong Disneyland train.
Payment for the MTR is made by way of automatic teller machines.
