Although this article was written in 2009 it has been updated for 2011, there have been changes made over the last 2 years, some prices have gone up and some events added.

Raanana municipality is providing many options to keep teens off the streets in summer 2011. These summer youth activities are aimed at kids from grade 7 and up, that means all kids over 12 years old. The following information was distributed door to door in a leaflet but it was in Hebrew, so here are all the Raanana municipality youth activities for summer 2011 – in English!

The Raanana Youth Resident Card

Firstly it is important to make sure that your teen has a Raanana Youth Resident Card (Hebrew: Cartis Toshav Tsier). This Raanana card will give your teen discounts at a number of places and the teenagers need this card to get into many of the places and events mentioned below. For information about where and how to get the Raanana Youth Residence Card and for any other information you may need call the Raanana Youth Hotline: 09-7722000 or the Raanana Municipality Department for Youths and Young Adults at 09-7610711/3 or the Raanana City Youth Center at 09-7724221. The Raanana Youth Resident Card is free of charge.

The Martef Club and the Raanana Youth Center (Hebrew: Merkaz HaNoar) are located next to Yad Lebenim on the corner of Ahuza Street and Opsterland Street.

Weekly Summer 2011 Youth Activities in Raanana

Every Sunday in Summer 2011 for Raanana Teenagers

For religious teenagers there is separate male and female swimming on a Sunday night at the Raanana municipal pool in Lev Hapark.

Midnight Snack and movie – in the Raanana Youth Center every Sunday from 23:00-03.33 teenagers can cook up a storm and then see a movie related to that kind of food. For example on 31.7 the film is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the food will be chocolate desserts. Teens can participate for 10 shekels, and then of course they get to eat it all! All the food and cooking equipment is Kosher.

In the youth club, the Martef, every Sunday there will be a Breakdance club from 19:00-23:00 entrance costs 5 shekels. Also at the Martef from 23:00-03:00 Hip Hop night and entrance is free.

Every Monday in Summer 2011 for Raanana Teenagers

Every Monday at midnight, 24:00, for 15 shekels there will be a film screening at Park Cinema, Raanana. Tickets can be bought from 16:00 at the cinema box office on the same day. For 3D movies the price is 24 shekels. The films are only for Raanana residents and only on presentation of the Raanana Youth Resident Card. The number of seats is limited. On 8.8 - Erev tisha b'Av - there will be no film.

GimGamim is a procession workshop which will take place every Monday afternoon at 16:00 in the Martef and entrance is free.

Every Tuesday in Summer 2011 for Raanana Teenagers

Youth night at the Lev Hapark municipal pool. From 21:30-01:30 for 20 shekels Raanana teenagers can have a midnight swim. There will be special low priced food stalls on the grounds. On 9.8 there will be no pool night. The pool night is also held on Thursday nights.

Tuesday night at 16:00 in the Martef club there will be special workshops and events including drawing and cartoon workshops, a yoga and laughter workshop, a tropical evening, Karaoke night, meditation and more, entrance is free.

Also in the Martef there will be two showings of films in the Martef from 16:00-18:30 and 18:30-20:30 and entrance is free.

Every Wednesday in Summer 2011 for Raanana Teenagers

At the Raanananim Mall Bowling Ally from 21:00 - 24:00 teens showing a Raanana resedent's card can get one game for 10 shekels.

For the younger teenagers in grades 6 and 7 there is a music party every Friday night in the Raanana Youth Center from 20:30-23:30 for 10 shekels.

Courses and workshops

Mayumana

Jewelry Workshop

An introduction to the materials used and techniques in jewelry making, at the end of the course the kids will leave with 9 pieces of jewelry which they have designed and made. Fashion and Styling Week

Fashion and styling course including design, make-up, hair styling and a photo shoot. The participants will be provided with all the accessories and materials necessary and receive a disc at the end of the course. Outings

A Visit to the Children's Museum Holon – Dialogue in Darkness

This is a wonderful opportunity to visit the famous Dialogue in darkness, an experience in complete darkness to help us better understand visually impaired people. A bus will leave the large parking lot on Rehov Hanissim on 10.8 at 17:00 and the price is 50 shekels which includes transport and entrance (if you visit the Holon museum at any other time it will cost you 65 shekels). You need to sign up for this outing by the 24.7 at 09-7610711/3 or at the Raanana Youth Hotline at 09-7722000.

Invitation to silence is in the same museum but this time we learn about how the deaf community experiences the world. The bus will leave on 3.8 at 17:00 from the large parking lot on Rehov Hanissim and costs 50 shekels. You need to sign up by 17.7.

Museum of Comics

A visit to this well known Holon museum of caricatures and comics as well as a workshop with a well known caricaturist. The bus will leave from large Rehov Hanissim parking lot on 12.7 at 16:00 and costs 50 shekels for transport and entrance. You need to sign up by 27.6.

The Please Touch center in Yaffa

A trip to the "Please Touch" center in Yaffa where there will be two special workshops the first being language and sign language which gives a glimpse into the world of the deaf and dumb. The second is a sculpture workshop conducted by blind instructors. The bus leaves on 20.7 at 17:00 from teh parking lot on Rehov Hanissimand costs 50 shekels, you need to sign up by 4.7.

Theatre Trip

An excursion to Habima in Tel Aviv to see the play " Im YEsh Gan Eden" or "If there is a heaven", the kids will also get to meet with and talk to the cast. The play is based on the award winning film Bufor. The bus leaves Raanana on 28.7 at 19:00 from the parking lot on Rehov Hanissim and costs 70 shekels for transport and entrance. You need to sign up by 10.7

The Olympic Experience

A trip to the Olympic center in Tel Aviv for an interactive sensory exploration into the world of the Olympics. Bus leaves on 17.8 at 16:00 from the parking lot on Rehov Hanissim and costs 50 shekels. You must sign up by 12.8.

End of Summer Party

Saturday night, 27th August at the Park Raanana basketball courts starting at 22:00 there will be music, dancing, food stalls and game tables for the Raanana youths.

None of the regular activities will take place on the8.7 or 9.7, the fast of Tesha B'Av. However the Martef Club will be open from 22:00.

Raanana transport for Rananna Teenagers

If you are wondering who will take the Raanana teens to all these events then the Raanana municipality has taken care of that as well. There is a free shuttle bus provided for them from 21:00-03:00 Sunday to Thursday and 22:30-03:30 on Friday and Saturday. The buses will run the length of the main street – Ahuza. This service is free!!

Security for Raannna Teenagers

Although parents will always be worried about where their kids are at night, you can feel comforted by the fact that these Raanana municipality youth activities are supervised and there is also a team of volunteer parents, a moble field unit and volunteer patrol men and women who go from one gathering place to the next throughout the night checking that there is no violence, alcohol, drugs or any other undesirable activity going on. With this service provided by the Raanana municipality you don't need to worry too much when your teenagers go out at night in Raanana.

Every Night there is entertainment for Raanana teens in the Martef Club, including guest DJs, guest bands, music, dancing, stand-up comedy, guest bands and open-mic nights. The club is like a nightclub for kids. The Martef Club is supervised and has door security, there is also no alcohol sold there. The Raanana Martef Club is open from 22:00-03:00. Entrance ranges from 10 shekels to 30 depending on the event.
