Philbrook is a beautiful Italian Renaissance mansion that is a landmark and art museum today located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Philbrook Mansion and Museum of Art is located at 2727 South Rockford Road one block east of South Peoria Ave at East 27th Place in Tulsa.

Philbrook was built from 1926 to 1927 by Kansas City architect Edward B. Delk for millionaire Oil Tycoon Waite Phillips and his wife Genevieve. The Phillips wanted to showcase their great wealth and built what was called Villa Philbrook at the time to do so.

Philbrook Mansion itself is 72 rooms large and surrounding the landmark mansion are 23 acres of grounds and beautiful landscaped gardens.

In 1938 Waite and Genevieve Phillips donated Philbrook Mansion and the surrounding grounds and gardens to the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the hopes the estate would be used as an art center. Tulsa quickly renovated Philbrook and converted it into an art museum and in 1939 the Philbrook Museum of Art was opened to the public.

In keeping with the Italian Renaissance architectural style of Philbrook the museum today houses a large collection of paintings and artwork from Italian Renaissance painters and artists.

Some 125,000 people visit the Philbrook Museum of Art every year making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tulsa and in Oklahoma.

The 20 plus acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and grounds surrounding the Philbrook Mansion contain many Italian Gardens complete with sculptures, a sensory garden and terraced formal gardens.

The Philbrook Museum of Art is a beautiful landmark in Tulsa, Oklahoma that is open to the public daily except for Mondays and July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. The museum stays open until 8 pm on Thursdays.
