Paris Hilton is one of those famous people who is better known for her lifestyle than for any actual talent. However she manages to get in to the headlines regularly by breaking the law and living the life of a rich dilettante. Here is a summary of Paris Hilton's brushes with the law, Paris's arrests and prison sentences.
September 2006 Paris Hilton was arrested in California for driving under the influence of alcohol. Paris's license was suspended.
January 2007 Paris Hilton was pulled over for reckless driving, her punishment was 36 months probation and approximately $1500 in fines. It was this probation which made her following offences more heinous.
January 2007 Paris Hilton was stopped for driving with a suspended license.
February 2007 Paris was pulled over for speeding, and then it was discovered that she was also driving with a suspended license as well as driving without headlights after dark and failing to enroll in a court ordered alcohol education program. All of these offences meant that Paris Hilton was breaking her probation.
May 2007 Following the above breaking of parole Paris was sentenced to 45 days in jail and after various dramatic court appeals petitions and appearances Paris Hilton's sentence was reduced to 23 days which she served.
2010 In Port Elizabeth, South Africa Paris was detained for smoking marijuana (in front of a huge crowd of people) while watching one of the World Cup football games. Paris Hilton was arrested for possession of marijuana and later released after a midnight court hearing.
July 2010 two weeks after the South African arrest, Paris was detained for possession of cannabis at Figari airport, Corsica and then released after half an hour due to the amount of marijuana being less than a gram.
August 2010 Arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession in Las Vegas. Paris Hilton was a car driven by her boyfriend (also under the influence of drugs) when the car was pulled over when an officer saw and smelt marijuana smoke coming from the car. When taken to the police station Paris took lip gloss from the purse she was holding and a small bag of cocaine fell out. She claims the purse and its contents are not hers. The case is still under investigation and Paris has been released without bail.
A brief look at Paris Hilton's rap sheet makes you wonder whether she has terrible luck always getting caught or has she no regard for the law? Was Paris Hilton ever given preferential treatment by the authorities? What kind of a role model is she and why is she famous? Is she just famous for being rich? It is disappointing that Paris Hilton's name allows her to be represented in the press as a high flying socialite and not an addict who is a danger on the roads.
