- Organize space. Keep things neat and clean. Organize your files; put any supplies or files you don't use daily inside your desk to reduce visual destruction. If you are hanging on to old invoices or other old records, see if you can get them out of your workspace into a storage area.
- Add a personal touch. One of the best ways to add a personal touch to your workspace is with framed pictures of your family, pets or friends. Consider how those photos reflect on your professional image. The best photos are candid ones that show joy and happiness. Good choices include photos of your and your loved ones at a favorite vacation spot. Anything showing nature, water or your pets can bring energy into your workspace which in turn also gives you an emotional boost. Avoid shots that show you and your buddies smoking or drinking or any intimate photos.
- Brighten up. Good lighting alleviates eyestrain, brightens your mood and increases energy.
- Add soothing accessories to your workspace. Place a small bowl of aromatherapy petals or sachets can transform your emotions or invigorate your senses. If your co-employers have sensitive noses, you just download wallpaper with scenes if sunflowers and lavender (unscented, of course.)!
- Decorate a few bold accessories. You want to project professionalism and good taste in your workspace stay away from stuffed animals and crafts. Instead paper weight or framed print or decorative bases can be a good choice.
- Add plant. According to feng shui experts plants brighten up any office. Not only do they project energy and life, plants also trap up indoor air pollutants. According to a study plants help reduce stress, improve attentiveness thus increase productivity. Design experts suggest before choosing a plant, consider the amount of available light in your workspace.
- Bring the outside in. Most workspace don't have window, but don't let that stop you from gazing at your favorite scenery. Many art print and home decorating sources offer windows capes that use realistic outside views.
- Be careful. Shun the offensive. Be careful with the posters, signs or cartoons you display and even the screensavers you choose. Say if you're striving for a tropical theme, look for a tropical fish and water-front scenes, not a swimsuit-clad body builders or bathing beauties in their string bikinis.
