Californians that need to get back to work can use the Internet to steadily do the work they need to do to find a job. The Employment Development Department helps Californians find their position by posting important information on job openings and labor markets.

Job searches are easy to keep up using the online tools. Using the tools, the job seeker can put their finger on the job that fits their skills and career goals, in blue collar construction work or in white collar management.

The California Job Search Link

Job listings roll out long on CalJOBS, the EDD's main database. Employers from throughout California post openings at their businenss, or government office, expecting to pull in a good worker. A social security number is needed to set up an account with a login name and a password and search through the employer postings by county, by occupation or industry, or by key word, but the number is kept confidential.

Or, the unemployed worker can do their good turn for California employers by posting their resume on the CalJOBS site. Employers search through the resumes regularly to dig up their newest hire. Just keep it up to date.

The Book on One Stop Shops

Seekers in need of guidance, or simply information not posted on the Internet can find what they need at a One Stop Career Center near where they live or work. The staff helps a Californian decide the right career path and offers job listings to look through. Even a connection to a local person that knows the field. Workers that want to train or go to school for a new position can look over information on a good place to improve their skills.

A list of the centers in a county can be found at either the searchable EDD online locator, or GoED, the Governor's Office of Economic Development. An EDD publication available online lists the addresses and contact information on sheets that can be printed.

Showing Up Ready to Get A Job

The keys to securing a job are posted at the EDD's WORKSMART website. Tips on dressing for interviews and writing a resume are posted. So are job titles, such as secretary, teacher, nurse, and carpenter, packer and janitor. The titles cover fields from clerical to transportation.

A publication a job seeker can use to get an edge on securing a job can be found at the California Career Resource Network. The California Career Planning Guide (second edition) helps a worker assess their skills and interests and values so they can find the job description that matches. The main goal is to build a career action plan.

Finding the Clear Career Path

Job markets are typically large fields a Californian knows only a little, or not at all. Information on the labor markets best for a career and the directions the fields are headed can make the difference between career success and a dead end job, or even unemployment. The EDD's Labor Market Information site gives workers an opportunity to look up the occupations in demand in their county and the 2 year to 10 year outlook for those occupations.

Need a job to prepare for with training or education. Find the occupation that is growing in job numbers in the county, or anywhere in California, and the wages. Finding the right occupation can be the one accomplishment that gets a worker past a career search block. A large database includes both the employment counts and wage histories.

Occupational guides are available online for their full list of occupations, such as construction laborer, so workers can carefully review the basics of the job they will do, the trends, and the training before they begin to prepare. The guides also tell the reader where to find a job.

From The Public Roll To The Payroll

Laid off workers on unemployment insurance can not put off job searches. Every week the unemployed Californian must contact an employer, send in a resume, or search for an available position. The EDD says so. The state employment agency also suggests unemployed workers use CalJOBS for their search for the job that gives them the opportunity to make earned income again, or if they are looking for a new occupation to train for, the agency suggests their Labor Market Information site. An unemployed worker can find the growing occupation worth training for.

The California Jobs Registry

Waiting for the right want ad to show up in a favorite newspaper can put an end to any chance at success. The key to finding the right job is looking for the list online the job is listed on. The California set of registries have a long enough job opportunities list for the job seeker to focus their effort on picking the right one.
