Natural Remedies for Heartburn

Millions of people around the world suffer from heartburn. This might be occasional or continuous, but it is best that you first visit the doctor if you’re always suffering from heartburn. You might not know that heartburn can be a symptom of a more serious illness such as gastroesophageal reflux disease. Afterwards, your doctor will prescribe you with many treatments. Your doctor might also suggest that you change your diet to treat heartburn. This is when you might choose to ask if you’re allowed to use natural remedies to treat heartburn.

1) Foods

If you’re suffering from continuous heartburn, you should eliminate any foods that could be the cause of it. These foods include:

• Chocolate

• Peppermint

• Tomatoes

• Spearmint

• Raw onions

• Alcohol

• Fizzy drinks

2) Reduce Stress

A survey was taken which revealed that 58% of those who suffered from continuous heartburn had increased levels of stress which made their heartburn symptoms worse.

However, scientists are yet to find out if stress could be one cause of heartburn. But looking at how stress can affect a person’s lifestyle, there is no reason why stress shouldn’t be included as one of the causes of heartburn. Apparently, stress can slow down the digestion of food from the stomach which could increase heartburn symptoms.

3) Eat Smaller Meals and Don’t Go Bed Too Soon

If you’re always hungry throughout the day, eat smaller meals during intervals rather than eating few larger meals. Large meals can cause the stomach to expand, putting increasing amounts of pressure against the esophageal sphincter.

Many people seem to go bed straight after eating their supper meal. This isn’t a good thing to do because gravity helps the digestive juices and the smooth flowing of food from the stomach to the intestines. Going straight to bed will prevent that from happening. This is why you might feel discomfort in the stomach once you wake up in the morning.

4) Other Natural Remedies

There’s a host of different natural remedies that can help aid heartburn. These natural remedies include:

• Baking soda

• Bananas

• Chamomile tea

Ginger

• Turmeric

• Aloe Vera juice

• DGL

• Marshmallow

• Slippery Elm

Overall, as you can see above that there are several natural remedies to help treat heartburn. But it is best that you consult with your doctor first before taking any of these remedies. You never know that your heartburn could be a symptom of a more serious illness.
