Vampires and werewolves are all the rage nowadays. Sure, the Twilight Saga deserves some credit but both small and big screen have always been fond of these two mysterious and dangerous types of creatures. Let’s take a look at some of the werewolves and shape shifters (the people that turn into wolves completely), other than Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black.

Lon Chaney Jr. and Benicio Del Toro in The Wolf Man (1941) and The Wolfman (2010):

Lon Chaney Jr. played “the wolf man” in 1941’s The Wolf Man. Lon Chaney’s films included a lot of the classic horror characters and elements: Frankenstein, Dracula, witches, wolves, haunted houses…

His werewolf film is rated at 7.4 on IMDB. The movie was remade in 2010, starring Benicio Del Toro – who is a fan of the first film. Just like Lon Chaney Jr, Benicio stands at 6' 2" (1.88 m). Benicio’s version features Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins; and is rated a 6.1./10 on IMDB.

Jack Nicholson and James Spader in Wolf :

Jack Nicholson and James Spader star in 1994’s Wolf. The movie is directed by Mike Nichols and the leading lady is Michelle Pfeiffer. Unlike the shape shifters (Jacob Black, his tribe and the ones from the movie Blood and Chocolate), Jack’s wolf is a true werewolf- he doesn’t turn into a wolf- but the complete hairy creature- half-man/half wolf- directed by the wolf’s instincts. How vicious you are going to be depends on what kind of a man you are in your daily life.

James Spader is the villain, and when he gets bitten, he turns into something to be afraid of.

Wolf is rated at 6.

 Agnes Bruckner and Oliver Martinez in Blood and Chocolate (2007):

Agnes Bruckner stars in Blood and Chocolate- a movie based on the book by Annette Curtis Klause.

Here Agnes plays Vivian, a young woman coming from a bloodline of shape shifters. She tries to exist as a normal person as much as she can, but the rules and traditions of her tribe are making this very difficult. Her life becomes more complicated as she falls for Aiden (Hugh Dancy), a human. And she is supposed to marry the leader of the pack Gabriel, played by Oliver Martinez. You might remember French actor Oliver Martinez from Unfaithful, starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere. You might also recall him as the ex-boyfriend of Australian singer Kylie Minogue.

Blood and Chocolate is rated at 5.2.

Michael J. Fox in Teen Wolf (1985):

Michael J. Fox’s werewolf is not scary but fun as he plays a high school student that turns into a werewolf in a comedy film.

Teen Wolf is rated at 5.
