Whether you are a high school/college student or seasoned unemployed worker, there are many positions available in the landscaping sector to earn a good part time income albeit seasonal. It is hard work but you will be outdoors working on your tan and body fitness.

To get a lead on a seasonal landscaping job, visit your local independent garden center. Most offer landscaping services to their clientele on a seasonal basis as well as one-time jobs such as water feature installation. They hire additional landscape workers to assist their permanent yearly staff during the late spring, summer, and early fall season. If they are not hiring, many independent landscapers contract plants, trees, shrubs, mulch and various other supplies through the garden center. The garden center owner will most likely know if these independents need part time seasonal workers.

The other means of finding a position with a landscaping company is to search the phone book or do a Google search. Craigslist or BackPage also will benefit your search for landscapers listings or jobs available for your locality.

The most lucrative way to earn in the landscaping industry is to start you own little enterprise. Lawn care pays well. Little did you realize when Dad taught you to mow the lawn that he was teaching you a skill that can earn you a good seasonal income. Home residents want their lawns in tiptop shape for the weekends. Equipment such as self-propelled lawnmower with grass catcher, edge trimmer, and transport cart can be bought used or refurbished to get you started. Canvass your neighborhood, especially the elderly, and offer your services at a price less than the big companies charge. Do a good job. Ask for a written referral or references in exchange for a discount. Word of mouth for a job well done will lead to more work.

Filling a Thursday and Friday with 15-20 clients at $35 per single lot can earn you a $400-$600 weekly income after expenses. Remember to put aside 28% for taxes and keep good records including receipts. If inclement weather is expected, a simple phone call to the client to reschedule for another day keeps you on target. Be flexible. A hot dry spell will slow grass growth. Let clients call you if they feel a cutting is unnecessary for a particular week.

Contact banks to offer your services on their foreclosed properties. Same goes for real estate agencies. If you can do a lawn on short notice such as a Saturday morning for an Open House, you can earn around $50 for this one-time service.

Other services you can provide are spring and fall yard cleanup. Shrub pruning and garden bed mulching. Lawn maintenance in the way of spreading fertilizer, crabgrass killer, lime treatment, grub killer. There are several opportunities for students and unemployed workers in the landscaping field. A part time seasonal stint can earn you a full time income to get you through the rest of the year.
