How To Save Money At The Gym

When you are on a budget, you may feel like you have to forfeit sessions at the gym as a way to cut costs. Adapting ways to save money at the gym allows you to continue to exercise without going out of bounds financially.

As money issues can cause stress, being able to go to the gym provides a great way to feel better and maintain a healthy, physical shape. Avoid losing your motivation to go the gym by adapting these valuable tips.

Buy Tickets or Monthly Passes

Monthly passes and books of tickets are available at many gyms, whether the gym is situated within a recreation centre or is a stand-alone facility. Purchasing multiple sessions at once is a great money-saving technique for the gym.

The passes and tickets are often cheaper in the long-term span than a single admission. For instance, my local recreation centre offers a book of ten tickets for $51.00 CAD, while a single admission is $6.50 CAD. The savings here amounts to $14.00 over ten sessions!

Planning ahead by purchasing future sessions is a money-saver. Yearly memberships may also be available at a reduced cost, depending on the gym of choice.

Find the information about the session costs by perusing the website of the gym or the recreation centre that houses the facility. Another option is to phone the gym to inquire about prices.

Bring Your Own Water

Although many gyms have vending machines that stock bottled water, bringing your own water bottle is likely a cheaper option. Fill the bottle before heading to the gym and add ice cubes to make the water cold quickly if desired. Leave a note in your gym bag to remind you to bring the bottle with you.

If you prefer bottled water, the supermarket or local convenience store may offer cheaper prices than the vending machine housed at the gym. Investigate the pricing and save a few cents each time you buy a bottle. Over time, these cents can add to a chunk of savings.

Cheaper Rates

Check whether your gym of choice offers cheaper rates during certain days and hours. The gym I prefer has cheaper drop-in rates between 1pm and 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Rather than charging $6.50 CAD for a single session, a work-out during this time period is only $3.00 CAD. I save more than half price by working out during these times.

For people who use the gym on a frequent basis, savings can add up quickly by simply altering the times reserved for exercise. Reduced rates may also be available to students and seniors. Valid identification needs to be shown when checking into the gym to access these particular rates. It is worth your time to inquire about reduced rates. Literally.

Trial Periods

Many gyms offer two-week free trial periods as a way to build a larger client base. Take advantage of advertised promotions such as this one. You are able to check out the gym equipment, staff, and environment at no cost.

As well as working out for free, you will save yourself money in the long run. You will invest in a gym that you have determined meets your needs rather than laying out funds for a facility that you soon determine is not well-suited for you. Avoid being disappointed in a gym that costs you money and that you are not motivated to attend regularly.

When money is tight, exercising at the gym does not have to be removed from the finance list. Save money by buying multiple admissions at one time and taking advantage of reduced rates. Bring your own water bottle and experiment with free promotions. Enjoy the gym without worrying about the facility eating away at your budget.
