How to Roll a Perfect Joint
EducationHow to Roll a Perfect Joint
You need two things: First, a sheet of rolling paper. Packages can be purchased at local convenience stores, two popular brand names are ZigZag and Rizla. You also need grinded up marijuana buds, approximately .5 gram for one joint.
If you don’t have a marijuana ‘grinder’ – a small device that helps break up buds, then simply use a regular pair of scissors. Cut the bud repeatedly until no large solid chunks remain. The weed should be fine enough to lose in carpet.
Remove a piece of rolling paper from its package. The paper’s glue edge should have its sticky side facing you. Now, carefully maneuver the weed into the fold of the rolling paper. This can be done easily with a piece of cardboard. Simply slide the weed off the edge of the surface you are rolling on and into the fold.
Cradle the paper, making sure no weed falls out. Use the thumb and the index finger of your free hand to pinch one side of the joint. Hold tight and do the same with the other hand.
Now, use both hands, utilizing the thumb and the index finger to work the joint into a roll. Push the marijuana down into the fold with the side of the paper closest to you. You want to use your thumbs to push the marijuana away from the top gluing edge and into the fold.
Make sure no marijuana is touching the glue. Slowly maneuver the joint until the paper completely encases the marijuana, lick the glue seal and close off the joint.
Use a small pointed object (I prefer keys) to pack in both sides of the joint. Seal off the “lighting” end of the joint by twisting its tip lightly. Some prefer a filter on the “smoking” side. Filters are very simple to make. Take a thin piece of cardboard, business cards work great, and cut out a width identical to the space left at the open end of the joint.
Roll the cardboard along its length until the piece is small enough to fit into the “smoking” end of the joint. Slide the piece in firmly. Congratulations, you’ve just rolled a joint. Light it up and enjoy smoking. And always remember, pass it to the left.
Note that a different method is used for rolling joints with cigar papers, commonly referred to as “blunts.” This method only works for cigarette papers.
