How to Make a Professional Wordpress Website
EducationHow to Make a Professional Wordpress Website
This article will teach you how to make a professional Wordpress website, hosted on your own domain. I waited two years before doing this myself, and I wasted a lot of time in my opinion, as there are many things you can't do on someone else's site.
I thought it would be harder than it is, and while I'm not saying it's easy, it's relatively easy if you have some experience with writing online, on a site like this one.
First things first, you need to decide what the title of your site will be. It's a good idea to do some keyword research, so you might want to log into the Google Adwords keyword tool, and do an exact match search for two word keyword phases related to the topic you are interested in writing about. (Make sure it's exact match).
Type in making a Wordpress website, if that's what you are interested in, (although that has a lot of competition), and you will get a list of related phrases.
Then, you pick one that looks like it has a large search volume, (over 10,000 a month worldwide), and then you check it out on Google.
Type it into Google in quotation marks, and see how many exact match results there are for that phrase. If it's under 100,000, you might have a chance.
Now, use a tool like SEO Quake to check the page rank, and number of back links leading to the first page results. I can generally just tell by looking at the site if I have a chance of beating it or not. You can also use Traffic Travis to check the same things, or SEO Powersuite. All of these are free tools.
If you have the money, you might want to try Market Samurai, or you can get a free trial version of that by signing up to The Challenge which is a free internet marketing training site.
Anyway, one thing that Market Samurai also has is a good tool for searching for domain names. You can type in your phrase, and look for an exact match domain name, which is the best thing to get for SEO.
If you can't get an exact match domain name, you might want to try a broad match domain name, which is as close as possible to your home page's title.
As an alternative, you can skip that step completely, and just pick a domain name that you like, and that will be relevant to what you're writing about.

Buying Your Domain Name and Hosting For Your Wordpress Website
Go to Host Gator, and sign up for a hosting package, they also sell domain names, and it's probably easier to get both in the same place. I like the baby plan, cause you can host an unlimited amount of domain names on your server. It's probably better not to host too many, I've decided to stick to one for the time being.
Host Gator has a 24 hour support team that can help you with setting up Wordpress on your domain. It's pretty simple, but I'd suggest you talk to them the first time you do it.
It works something like this. When you sign up, you get sent an email with two nameserver passwords, and you enter them in the FTP Client form, like I used Fantastico Deluxe, which is on the Host Gator Cpanel.
You fill out your email address, admin name, and password, and that's about it, in a day or two, you have your Wordpress admin panel, which is usually your domain name plus: /wp-admin/ at the end of the URL.
Once you have your Wordpress admin panel, I'd suggest you add the all-in-one SEO plugin, and fill the settings on that out with your site's title description, and a few other things, and maybe add the Google XML sitemap plugin.
