Group chats are popular in the television world today. The list is expanding as new TV shows such as The Revolution and The Chew recently premiered to add to the existing selection. “Group chat show” may be a more suitable term than “Talk Show” as panelists, rather than a single host, discuss topics during each show.

The Revolution

The newest show to the group chat market is The Revolution, which premiered in January. The health and lifestyle show features five celebrities from different specialty fields meeting to discuss one topic from the five different angles via each host.

The famous hosts are fitness guru Harley Pasternak, design guy Ty Pennington, fashionista Tim Gunn, Doctor Jennifer Ashton, and advice-giving Tiffanie Davis.

The Chew

The television show The Chew first aired in September of 2011. With a few more months experience than The Revolution, The Chew looks at current topics from the angle of how good food relates and enhances life experiences.

Hosts for this show are nutritionist Daphne Oz, fashion expert Clinton Kelly, Chef Carla Hall, and Iron Chef America’s Michael Symon and Mario Batali.

The Talk

The Talk premiered in October 2010, making it a seasoned professional at the group chat game. The show is hosted by a panel of celebrity mothers; the parenting aspect is a unique perspective brought by the show.

The Talk currently features actress Sara Gilbert, who is also the executive producer, as well as reality news anchor Julie Chen, outrageous Sharon Osbourne, comedian Sheryl Underwood, and actress Aisha Tyler.

The View

The first of its kind, The View premiered back in August of 1997. Now in Season 13, the television show is still going strong. The current hosts are correspondent Barbara Walters, comedian Joy Behar, reality star Elisabeth Hasselbeck, comedian Sherri Shepherd, and actress Whoopi Goldberg.

The View now contends with the shows outlined above and the shows share some similar features. Pick a trendy or popular current topic, and prepare to have it debated by the team of panelists who share in hosting the show. Each show features a moderator who keeps the conversation flowing and on topic as well as cutting to commercial breaks where needed.

All four television shows have similar titles of “The” followed by a catchy, descriptive word. The panelists are all tagged as professionals or experts in a particular subject and represent the relevant perspective for the show. All the hosts are celebrities in their own right outside of these television shows.

The daytime television shows all offer one hour episodes Monday through Friday. Viewers have considerable choice as to which show they want to watch and can even PVR one show while watching another. Group chat style shows are a popular trend in television today.
