Airports are important establishments for fast and effective transportation and communication. Almost each and every country in the world has an airport or two. But do you know that there are 5 countries in the world without an airport? The countries with no airport are the ff; Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City.
Barra Airport – UK
This airport, called Barra Airport, is unique because it is the only one in the world where scheduled flights use a beach as the runway. The 3 runways of the airport are under the sea during high tides and flight schedules vary with the tide. Barra Airport is a short-runway airport located in the island of Barra, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. This unique airport is situated in the wide shallow bay of Traigh Mhor. The beach is set out with 3 runways, marked by wooden poles at their ends. It is also known as Barra Eoligarry Airport.
Gibraltar Airport
Gibraltar Airport is a unique civilian airport where passengers depart and arrive through the civilian operated terminal. Why is Gibraltar Airport unique? It is unique for having the distinction of being the closest airport to the city that it serves. It is only 500 meters from Gibraltar’s city centre. In addition, Gibraltar Airport is unique because the airport’s runway intersects the Winston Churchill Avenue, so consequently has to be closed every time a plane lands or departs. It is also one of the few Class A airport in the world.

Sedona Airport is a unique airport located in Sedona, Arizona, USA. This small commercial airport covers 89 ha and has one runway and one helipad. The airport is because it is located on top of a high mesa overlooking a major portion of the city. The airport also offers a panoramic view of the Red Rocks of Sedona because these wonderful rock formations are located very close to it.

This is the world’s best airport. Incheon International Airport is an airport located in South Korea. It is the largest airport in the country and one of the largest and busiest in Asia. It is also one of the only 3 airports that received the full 5-star ranking by Skyrax (Hong Kong Airport and Singapore Changi Airport). This first-class airport boasts unique luxury features such as casino, golf course, indoor gardens, private sleeping rooms and spa.
Hong Kong International Airport – China
Hong Kong International Airport is one of the best airports in the world. It is one of the only 3 airports that received full 5 star ranking. This first-class airport, built on an island, is the main airport of Hong Kong, China. HKIA, with 60,000 employees, also operates one of the world's largest passenger terminal buildings and operates twenty-four hours a day. It is informally known as Chek Lap Kok Airport.
Singapore Changi Airport – Singapore
Singapore Changi Airport joins the rank of Hong Kong International Airport and Incheon International Airport as the only 3 airports in the world that received full 5 star ranking. It is located in Changi, Singapore on a site of 13 km². The airport, with 15,000 employees, had already won more than 280 awards in a span of 20-years (1987 to 2007, including 19 Best Airport awards in 2007 alone. This first-class airport is also simply called Changi Airport.
