Dryness of the skin can make it look unhealthy and flaky, more so, during the cold, dry winter months. What’s more, if you do not care for your skin on a regular basis, you may hasten the process of ageing and invite wrinkle formation prematurely.

What Causes Dry Skin?

  • Insufficient production of sebum, the skin lubricant, results in dryness of the skin. Consequently, the skin becomes itchy, cracked and scaly.
  • Less humidity, too much cold, undue exposure to the sun and pollution, also result in dry skin.
  • Putting on too much make up is another significant cause.
  • Vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E deficiency also dries the skin
  • Neglect of the skin and not following a skin care routine is also responsible for dryness.

Home Remedies for Treating a Dry Skin: Effective Natural Treatment for Dry Skin

A healthy diet and following a daily skin care regimen helps manage dryness of the skin effectively. These home remedies help nourish the skin and make it look healthy:

  • Almond oil: Almond oil is an excellent treatment option for dry and sensitive skin. Almond oil provides your skin with loads of vitamin E, thus, making the skin soft and supple. Almond oil fights dryness and gets rid off wrinkles. Massage the oil in to your face and neck and leave on for half an hour; then rinse with cold water.
  • Avocado: Avocado provides the skin with plenty of essential fatty acids and vitamin E. It is used in most skin packs and creams, since it gives a healthy radiance to the skin and banishes dryness, flakiness, itching, fine lines and age spots. Mash half an avocado and blend in 1 spoon of almond oil or wheat germ oil. Apply generously over the face and neck. Leave on for 30 minutes; rinse off.
  • Honey: Honey is another very effective natural home remedy for dry skin. Used alone or with a drop of a suitable essential oil (lavender, frankincense or geranium) honey is an excellent skin tonic.

Furthermore, drink plenty of water through the day. 8 glasses is a must. Water hydrates the skin and fights off dryness.
