The flowers you choose for your wedding help to create the mood and support the theme you have chosen to present. Aside from the traditional options there are several unexpected or nontraditional flowers that can make your wedding ceremony or reception even more memorable and special. With a little creativity, your wedding can be alive with color and texture from creative wedding flower choices.

Vibrant Colors

Even though roses and tulips are considered traditional wedding flowers, choosing to combine different bold colors in conventional blooms can take your wedding from traditional to unique and creative.

Roses can be both cultivated in a number or colored or dyed to match any vibrant color scheme. An outdoor or spring wedding is the perfect venue for bold and bright roses. Oranges, yellows and saturated pinks look unique and whimsical when paired together in tight groupings. Patterns and repeating colors are important, so that one color doesn’t over shadow the rest. This easy to do, budget friendly idea is perfect for infusing color into your wedding.

Tulips, like roses, bloom in a myriad of bold colors that can be combined with deep green foliage for a bold pop of wedding creativity. Affordable, beautiful and delicate, the brightness of tulips works well with their understated shape and common usage. When using tulips in wedding arrangements, you can use the garden tulips lesser used relative, the parrot tulip. While the parrot tulip may be more expensive, the ruffled edges and multicolored blooms add texture and color to garden or spring wedding arrangements.

Exotic Flowers

If the budget for your wedding flowers isn’t an issue, using exotic or rare flowers in your wedding décor is a great way to infuse the unexpected into what can be a traditional and predictable event. Tropical plants and flowers, hybrids or rare cultivations will draw your wedding guests’ attention and keep them talking about your amazing, beautiful and unexpected wedding décor.

Not every bride can afford to have a fantasy destination wedding on a tropical beach, surrounded by the most interesting, colorful and beautiful flowers. While you may not be able to recite your vows on the shores of Maui, you can bring a bit of the tropics to a more affordable, local wedding venue through the use of tropical flowers. This is not an inexpensive option, but can hurt your budget less than transporting your entire wedding to Hawaii or Fiji.

For a truly unique wedding flower, try using touches of the heliconia, or lobster claw, flower. The wide, flat swooping petals of the heliconia are impressive and whimsical, adding a touch of tropical flare to any wedding décor scheme. Princess brides with a taste for exotic flowers will love the subtle pink coloration that can be found in heliconia. You can also choose deeper, more saturated heliconia in shades of orange, yellow and red.

An exotic flower that can add height, texture and color to your wedding floral arrangements, try using the curcuma flower. These conical blooms can be found in subtle shades or purple and ivory as well as vibrant reds and oranges. The curcuma looks elegant when paired with more traditional flowers like roses, tulips and hyacinths.

Your wedding can be as exotic, beautiful and bold as you’ve dreamt it could be by choosing interesting and unique flowers to accent your theme or décor. The best way to have host a wedding reception and ceremony that will be remembered forever is to stay true to your own tastes and throw fear or second guessing your choices out the window.
