Which Color Personality Are You: Red, Blue, Green or Yellow?

Updated July 26, 2022
5 minute read

It’s no secret that each person is unique and the traits and personalities we have completely represent who we are. It’s even more widely known that our nuances, qualities, temperaments and dispositions may lead us into either getting along with each other or just awkwardly clashing, eventually leading to misunderstandings and conflicts.

In fact, many companies are now using personality tests to get to know their employees on a deeper level, as to get a hint of the kind of personalities their workers have. These tests are done to better assess their employees’ work ethics, work performances, and suggest better ways to deal with clients and customers.

On a more personal setup, personality tests help us to better recognize the love languages of our partners, friends and family members, which then foster healthier relationships with one another.

Individually, personality tests encourage self-awareness as they serve as measurements of personal characteristics.

Personality tests are created as a way to further understand ourselves and others, and to give us a better idea of how we deal with people, things and situations. Oh yeah, they're fun, too!

Experts have determined that there are four basic types of personalities based on the four basic colors: red, blue, green, and yellow.

Now, let’s dive into it.

Where to Take This Test

Want to know what type of personality you have? You should take this simple color personality test

What Is the Four Color Personality Test?

These four broad colors are more than just pieces of pie on the color wheel. They help give you a better understanding of the person that you are, and the person you need to be. We’re all human. We all have weak spots. But that doesn’t mean that they’re set in stone. Our weaknesses can be improved and our stubborn spots can be worn down. More often than not, once you’ve taken this quiz, you’ll find that you fall into more than one category, more than one color. And the best thing about colors? They can be mixed to create something so unique, so you. Your primary color is fundamentally you, but your secondary color supports and influences you on an emotional level. This quiz and the analysis for each color personality is intended to be fun and educational (total yellow move), aiming to increase awareness of one’s self.

The Four Colors and Their Personality Types

Red

Red. The color of blood, of passion, of leadership, and maybe even the color of you. Red personality types get things done. And they want it done their way. You need reds to act as organizers, because otherwise they won’t listen. This is a dominating personality. Reds have a low tolerance for those who are undisciplined, which often has them butting heads with yellows (sorry, Yellow). Reds are confident and have a strong desire to win out due to their competitive nature. When faced with a stressful situation, red personalities generally seek out strenuous activities (think running or boxing) to release their frustration. Showing emotions is difficult for a red personality. A red’s pragmatism could lead to unpopularity. Reds find it hard to separate their personal life from work life. They seek strict routines and deadlines in everything they do, because they love being in control.

Traits

  • Competitive

  • Demanding

  • Determined

  • Strong-willed

  • Go-getter

Weaknesses

  • Inattentive to details at times

  • Inflexible or demanding

  • Overlooks risks

  • Resents restrictions

Yellow

Sweet like sunshine, yellows are considered to be the most enthusiastic personality. Yellows are creators, they’re performers, and above all else, they love to be of assistance. These people are professional helpers. Yellows live for the chance to be of assistance. It makes them feel good to help. Yellows are thoughtful and inquisitive and look at scenarios with a different perspective. If you’re a yellow, you’re probably easy-go-lucky. The yellow personality is a great team player, super friendly, personable and loyal. Yellows are family oriented, intuitive and make for great volunteers. Yellow personalities steer clear from conflict, deceivers and dishonest people.

Traits

  • Enthusiastic

  • Social

  • Communicative

  • Persuasive

  • Dynamic

  • Creative

Weaknesses

  • Impulsive

  • Jumps to conclusions

Blue

Blues are, in a word, perfectionists. But if you’re a blue, you already knew this. This type of personality leans toward examining the smallest detail of every situation and frets about each one of them not going according to plan. The person with a blue personality often appeals emotionless from the outside looking in. Much like the red personality, blues love to analyze and organize. The blue personality is a collaborative person, but like a yellow, tends to avoid conflict when possible. People trust blues to get the job done, but that isn’t always a good thing for a blue’s teammates. That’s because blues never listen. Not because they’re being rude, but because a blue personality is thinking at about 200 miles per hour in 200 different directions and other personalities are thinking too slowly. Count on a blue to finish your sentence, to finish your project.

Traits

  • Analytical

  • Questioning

  • Formal

  • Cautious

  • Reserved

  • Thoughtful

Weaknesses

  • Avoids confrontation

  • Pessimistic

  • Hesitant to try new things

  • Indecisive

  • Low self esteem

  • Sensitive to criticism

Green

Supportive, helpful, calm. That is the green personality. Someone with a green personality doesn’t easily get frazzled, and is the epitome of calmness, even in the most stressful situations. Greens are usually the personality types to act as mediators in awkward or uncomfortable situations (probably between a yellow and a red, if we’re being honest). The green personality is known to be very calculated and logical in their thinking. Greens think matters through an analytical eye. But green personalities aren’t purely Vulcan. They use their analytical mind to create innovative solutions, making them equally as creative as the yellow personality. Greens have a healthy degree of empathy and can often read people’s emotions. When stressed, greens need to take time away from the situation before tackling an issue. Because the green personality type is known to maintain harmony amongst friends, they find it hard to say no.

Traits

  • Caring

  • Encouraging

  • Sharing

  • Patient

  • Relaxed

  • Calm

Weaknesses

  • Trouble making deadlines

  • Holds grudges

  • Lacks initiative

  • Overly lenient

  • Possessive

  • Resists change

Buying Guide

  • The red personality is always working, and rarely takes time away from the office. Which is why a red would benefit from a massage or facial from Milk + Honey. Reds need to slow down every once in a while and a relaxing afternoon away from the hubbub of the world around them is the perfect gift for them.

  • The yellow personality thrives when creating. A great gift for the yellow personality is an embroidery kit from DMC Crafts. It allows yellows to express themselves, and because they’re thoughtful people, they’ll probably end up gifting you one of their creations.

  • Blues, as you already know, are analytical and organized and always working to get the job done. They’d benefit greatly from a Papier planner. This will allow the blue personality to stay organized, grounded and focused.

  • Green personality types are usually so busy helping those around them, they forget to tend to their own needs. Greens ought to find time for themselves. They’re naturally patient people, which is why we believe they could benefit from learning how to play the guitar. Learn how to play from the comfort of your own home (we know how greens love staying in) with Skillshare classes.
