Wet Dreams, Nocturnal Emissions and Sleep Orgasms
Nocturnal emissions are also called wet dreams, or orgasms during sleep. Wet dreams are most common among adolescents but sill an adult might have nocturnal emissions as well.
What is a nocturnal emission?
It is a release or ejaculation while sleeping brought on by an erotic dream. Though the individuals having them are often embarrassed it is quite common. At some point in a lifetime, 80 percent of males will have a wet dream. The dreamer may or may not sleep through the ejaculation or know what is happening or why. However, the nocturnal emissions are actually an orgasm that has occurred because of dreaming about sexual images. Teenagers, especially are embarrassed about this, particularly during puberty when they have not yet become sexually active.
When do males have nocturnal emissions?
Wet dreams begin at puberty, some men experience them in their late teens and still other men do not have them until much later in life. Some males will experience quite a few nocturnal emissions during adolescence and they tamper off in adulthood. Then there are men who have never had them at all.
How often do sleep orgasms occur
There is no set rule; some men will just experience one or two will others will have them much more frequently.
- However, we know that about 13 percent of males will have their first ejaculation during a wet dream.
- 15-year-old can have up to 12 wet dreams a week.
- A forty-year-old male will have one at an average of 0.18 times per week. In other words it is rare
- The same goes for a married man, the statistics are 0.23 times a week.
Is this only a male condition?
Women will experience vaginal lubrication while having a wet dream
When are sleep orgasms likely to occur?
Since they are associated with dreaming, they will occur during the REM – Rapid Eye Movement stage of the dream cycle. Also, a male who is sensitive may have a wet dream due to the sensation of his penis against the mattress.
Will changing my lifestyle stop the nocturnal emissions?
To date there are no studies supporting the frequency of masturbation, diet or age of the dreamer, having any bearing on the frequency of wet dreams.
Nocturnal Emission Home Remedies
Many men will look on the Internet to find some home remedies to stop the bedtime ejaculations. They are too embarrassed to seek medical attention, however, none of these home remedies have been empirically studied and so it is still best to seek proper medical attention, rather than try something on your own.

There's nothing sick about this. It's a normal occurrence during sleep for some folks. I've probably experienced this 6 times in my life. The first time I was embarrassed.. I was in my early 20s, after becoming a nurse and being more aware of the body and how it works, I have not thought anything negative about them.
The search engines do prefer this topic I suppose if there is human influence behind it. A very interesting topic indeed Carol. I prefer intimate dreams tonight if I could will it, a date with Megan Fox will do.
Impressive issue under the realm of sleep and dreams, my very rare experience, I can only recall once or twice in my younger days.
I got to hand it to you. You sure do pick out of the ordinary topics. How is this one doing in the search engines. :)
The quick-study of a man's underwear shows that there have been emissions in proximal locations: same for changing sheets on a bed if not done regularly, 'spots' are not uncommon. Changing soiled bedsheets is important as ejaculate is protein-rich food for dust mites, whose populations can explode if feed this high-energy food source. Dust mites, -some 98% of ALL beds have these and they feed upon human skin cells and any dried fluids secreted or excreted from humans. Dust mites tend to be more numerous in the marriage bed because of the leaked fluids the partners each emit (more food for the dust mites)
