General information
Silverex Cream (silver sulfadiazine) is from the family of topical sulfonamides applied for treating a wide range of dermatological diseases.
Silverex Cream uses
Silverex cream is used for treating as well as preventing infectivity in acute burns. It may also be used for various skin related problems not listed above.
Don’t use Silverex Cream (silver sulfadiazine), without consulting your doctor, for any bacterial skin infection or other skin infection which you are not sure about.
Dosage Adult: Silverex Topical as one percent cream: Use on the infected region1-2 times every day or use as recommended by your doctor.
Drug Interactions
Using SIlverex cream for a prolonged period may initiate anti-diabetic action of sulphonylureas. Not antagonized by (Para-Amino-Benzoic acid) PABA.
Contraindications
Patients using Silverex cream may suffer from allergic reaction to sulphonamides, porphyria or any of its active ingredients. It is contradicted in premature children and children less than 2 months old. It is not recommended to use Silverex cream during pregnancy as well as lactations.
Special Precautions
To be used under strict prescription in patients suffering from impaired hepatic or renal disorders and G6PD deficiency. Patients require preserving sufficient fluid intake. Strict observation of blood counts is required. Systemic absorption, causing argyria may take place if it is use in large infected regions areas for a prolonged time period.
Category B: Either animal reproduction evaluations have not established a fetal threat but there are no effective reports in case of pregnancy in human or animal reproduction evaluations have exposed an side effect (other than a decline in fertility) that was not established in effective reports in women in the first trimester (and there is no indication of a danger in the second or third trimester either).
Silverex cream side effects
Minor side effects
Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, allergic reaction, skin sensitivity, crystalluria, haematuria, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia. Consult a doctor in case any of these side effects become persistent and troublesome.
Potentially Fatal: Agranulocytosis, Stevens - Johnson syndrome, hepatitis and jaundice. Consult a doctor imeediately in case any of these side effects occur.
