QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION
Sulbactam sodium/cefoperazone sodium mixture is available as a dry powder for reconstitution in a 1:1 and 1:2 ratio in terms of free SBT/CPZ.
Sulbactam sodium is an extract of the vital penicillin nucleus. It is a permanent beta-lactamase inhibitor for parenteral use only. Chemically Magnex Forte is sodium penicillinate sulfone. It contains 92 mg sodium (4 mEq) per gram. Sulbactam is an off-white crystalline powder which is highly soluble in water. The molecular weight is 255.22.
Cefoperazone sodium is a semisynthetic broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral use only. It contains 34 mg sodium {1.5 mEq) per gram. Cefoperazone is a white crystalline powder which is freely soluble in water. The molecular weight is 667.65.
PHARMACEUTICAL FORM
Vials of the 1:1 product contain the equivalent of 500 mg + 500 mg and 1000mg + 1000 mg of sulbactam and cefoperazone, respectively. Vials of the 1:2 products contain the equivalent of 500 mg +1000 mg and 1000 mg + 2000 mo of sulbactam and cefoperazone, respectively.
CLINICAL PARTICULARS Therapeutic Indications Mono-therapy
MAGNEX Forte is indicated for the treatment of the following infections when caused by susceptible organisms:
• Magnex Forte is prescribed for treating Respiratory Tract Infections (Upper and Lower). .
• Patients suffering from Urinary Tract infections (Upper and Lower) are also prescribed with Magnex forte.
• Cholecystitis, Peritonitis,Cholangitis, and Other Intra-Abdominal Infections are also treated with Magnex Forte.
• Prescribed for treating Septicemia.
• Meningitis.
• Skin and Soft Tissue Infections as well as Bone and Joint Infections are treated using Magnex Forte.
• Endometritis, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Gonorrhea, and Other Infections of the Genital Tract are prescribed Magnex Forte.
Combination Therapy
Because of the broad range of action of sulbactam/cefoperazone, most diseases can be treated adequately with this antibiotic alone. However, MAGNEX Forte may be used concurrently with other antibiotics if such mixtures are indicated. If an aminoglycoside is used, renal function should be monitored throughout the course of rehabilitation.
Tips and warnings
Avoid using Magnex Forte if you are allergic to penicillin, sulbactam, cefoperazone, or any of the active ingredients present in the medication. In case of any side effects on using magnex Forte, Consult it with your doctor immediately.
