Hotel Review: The Riga Gallery Park Hotel, Latvia's Best Hotel
The Hotel Gallery Park is a five star hotel in every sense of the word, the most outstanding feature of this Riga hotel is the service, although the décor and luxurious surroundings will also impress you. The Gallery Park has been named the best hotel in Latvia and on several booking sites has been awarded a rate of 5/5. The hotel was renovated in 2009 and is a UNESCO World Heritage building built in the 19th century.
The Riga Gallery Park Hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the Riga Old Town but the walk is a pleasant one through one of the luscious Riga parks. If you are planning on eating your meals at the kosher Chabad restaurant then the Gallery Park is a good location, also if you prefer a quiet atmosphere away from the madding crowd then choose the Gallery Park. However if you prefer to be in the thick of the action and on top of all the Riga tourist attractions, restaurants and pubs then rather stay in a hotel in Riga's Old Town.
Building and facilities and rooms
The Riga Gallery Park Hotel is regal and elegant the décor is nostalgic of a romantic and opulent era, all the furniture is heavy wood and the walls and ceilings feature classic art, antiques and a lot of gold leaf.
However as with all five star hotels not all rooms are created equally, I strongly recommend you question the hotel as to which room you will be receiving before you commit to a booking. The Riga Gallery Park Hotel has contemporary and classic rooms, which means some rooms match the classy old-school furnishings of the hotel's public areas and other rooms are modern. If you are allocated a contemporary room on the 4th floor you will get a large skylight type window which doesn't open but you will get a bath; if you have a contemporary deluxe room you may get a window which opens but a shower instead of a bath and twin beds instead of a double. The suits and classic rooms are decorated in the old style but the standard classic rooms are smaller than the contemporary ones. Make sure you ask whether you have a bath or shower, a window that opens and whether your room is classic or contemporary.

The facilities of the Riga Hotel Park Gallery include a beautiful spa with sauna, jet stream pool and gym equipment. The ceiling above the pool is covered with tiny lights, so you feel like you are swimming under the stars. The Riga Gallery Park has a bar and restaurant although more often frequented by guests only and not by the general public.
Every room in the Riga Gallery Park Hotel has slippers, gowns and a basket of luxurious Thalgo toiletries. The hotel beds are firm and comfortable and frette linen is top quality comfort. The rooms are also equipped with flat screen TVs and WiFi is available. The TV channels available do not include English speaking drama and film channels, only news, sports and music.
There is one computer for guest use at the Gallery Park Hotel and it is right next to the reception area, offering no privacy for computer users.
The service at Riga's Hotel Gallery Park is impeccable, starting with the warm welcome as you arrive and the personal tour of the hotel and your room. Personal experience of their outstanding service includes detailed help with planning what to see in Riga; currency exchange at a good rate; room service in the middle of the night and preparation of food not on the menu as well as providing a forgotten toothbrush. All service is offered wth polite attention to detail, decorum and a smile.
Who should stay at the Riga Gallery Park Hotel
The Gallery Park is better suited to mature guests, couples, business people, the rich and famous but not those looking for company from other guests or a lively lobby. The hotel is quite, sophisticated and a serene retreat from lively Riga in the nearby Old Town I also don't recommend the Gallery Park Hotel for families with small children. The Riga Gallery Park Hotel is not cheap and if you are going to stay there you might as well pay the extra to stay in one of the better rooms or suites.
