Daria Grinkova: Part of A Gold Medal Legacy
Daria Grinkova is the oldest daughter of Olympic champion, Ekaterina Gordeeva. Her father is Sergei Grinkov who suffered a fatal heart attack when Daria was a mere three years old. She was born on September 11, 1992. and has grown up surrounded by the figure skating world. She was the sole inspiration for her parents, Katia and Sergei to return to the Olympic ice once again, in 1994. The pair obviously has great love for their daughter as she inspired them all the way to win Olympic Gold. One of her first public appearances was at a "Stars On Ice" show as a surprise to Ekaterina Gordeeva, by fellow skater and close friend, Scott Hamilton. In 1996, she attended the memorial show for her father. She watched as her mother skated as a singles skater as a tribute to her deceased father.
In 1997, she starred along with her mother in her acting debut as Lizzy in the television special, "Snowden on Ice." Her mother launched two fragrances lines in the late '90's. Daria and Katia appeared in commercials for the perfumes. She also appeared in the film, "My Sergei" which was a documentary about her parents' life. She has appeared in ads for Target and Milk with her role model, mother. She was the sole inspiration for Katia's second book named, "A Letter for Daria." In 2003, Daria skated on the ice with her mother for the first time for a Mother's Day Special. She has skated on the ice with Katia and her younger sister, Liza.
She has competed in many figure skating competitions. Daria has chosen to give up competitive skating and focus on her education. She has participated in team sports at her school. She will continue to skate in professional figure skating shows with her family when given the opportunity but no longer wishes to devote the majority of her time to training and ice skating. She was coached by 1998 Olympic Gold Medalist, Ilia Kulik who is also her stepfather.
Daria has aspirations of working in fashion. She currently resides in California, and she is a wonderful big sister to inspiring figure skater, Liza Kulik. She will always be a reminder of the love story that her parents shared on the ice. Her mother's courage and constant tenacity is a constant inspiration to her young teen daughter, and she will always carry her father with her through her smile and positive personality.
