Knoji reviews products and up-and-coming brands we think you'll love. In certain cases, we may receive a commission from brands mentioned in our guides. Learn more.

We've gone in for the best in class on vitamin subscription companies, many of which personalize your dietary supplement blend based on your DNA, blood testing, or online surveys.

Some people swear they stay healthy by simply exercising and eating right, while others incorporate dietary supplements like vitamins and herbs into their personal care routine — with up to half of all Americans reported to be currently taking some type of daily vitamins.

Until now, most of these folks have reached out to their local pharmacists, health food stores, or physicians for guidance on which supplements to take, and how much.

But today? You guessed it — we’ve got startups with personalized monthly subscriptions and mobile apps to sort it all for us! And the price? It’s actually cheaper than ever. Come see our finds and check out the 10 best  personalized vitamin subscriptions, compared.

Our Personalized Vitamin Subscription Picks:

  • Best personalized vitamin subscription for women: Ritual
  • Best for those who have difficulty swallowing pills: Nutrigene
  • Best for those who prefer a single pill over several vitamins: Multiply Labs
  • Best for kids: Vitafive
  • Best for vegans: Vitamin Lab

Care/of

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Care/of is a website which provides members with 30 personalized packs of vitamins each month based on their customized needs. When you arrive at the Care/of site, you'll be taken through a detailed questionnaire to find out your specific health needs in order to personalize their supplement suggestions for you.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

At the end, you'll get 2 sets of recommendations: a vitamin pack, and some 'quick sticks' or supplement powders. I clicked into my recommendations to find they suggested 5 pills and 2 quick sticks for a total of $43 per month. Compared to what I'd pay for 5-7 different supplements at the health food store, this definitely sounds like a steal!

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

For further information, I could click in to see why they suggested each supplement (usually, it was based upon my answers to the questionnaire), and what each was responsible for nutritionally in the body. They even linked me to research studies backing their claims.

If I ordered a subscription, I'd get a box like this monthly, which holds 30 personalized little vitamin packs with your name on them:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Here’s our comparison summary for Care/of:

  • Cancellation policy: You can cancel your Care/of subscription at any time. You can also adjust your monthly subscription at any time, as long as they receive the update before the box ships. Regarding cancellation, their website explains, “You cancel any time by shooting us a quick email to help@takecareof.com.  Be sure to email from your account email address or include it in the message along with feedback about why you're canceling...”
  • Do Care/of vitamins actually work? How good are they? It’s hard to measure how beneficial supplements are without blood tests or other scientific tools but, for what it’s worth, some customers have insisted they have more energy, clearer skin, better focus, and enhanced immunity since taking their Care/of vitamins packs.
  • Side effects: As their site explains, “All of the supplements we have on our website are safe to be taken together, they don't negatively interact with each other. That being said, everyone's body is unique and responds differently to supplements!  We would definitely recommend speaking with your doctor about interactions if you are taking any prescription medications.”
  • How often should you take Care/of vitamins? There is no timetable — you can take all of your supplements whenever is most convenient for you! They recommend taking them at the same time everyday to "develop a consistent routine." They also say that "unlike other vitamins that don't absorb well unless taken on a full stomach or spread out throughout the day, ours are fermented for optimal absorption so they can actually be taken just with water on an empty stomach if you like. But everyone is different, so if taking your vitamins with food feels better for your body you can do that too.” You can also get push notifications in the app by going to notifications in the Take Vitamins and choose the time of day you’d like to receive your reminder.”
  • DNA sample required? No
  • FDA compliance: Dietary supplements generally are not regulated by the FDA, but Care/Of does all of its testing at U.S. NSF-and GMP-certified facilities, the only dietary supplement national standard in the industry.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Also, as found on most vitamin and supplement containers, this disclaimer is displayed on their website:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

  • Are Care/of vitamins organic? Although they are said to be sustainably sourced, the website does not claim their ingredients or products are organic.

Pros:

  • Daily packs in a handy box will simplify taking multiple supplements
  • Company is advised on product development by a team of doctors, scientists, and nutrition experts
  • Research-based suggestions are linked to the studies they’re drawn from

Cons:

  • Some studies may not have many volunteers or participants, or were only done  on animals, which some critics say make them “inconclusive”

Bottom Line:

As with any new food or supplement, pay attention to your body when you take your vitamins. Do you feel okay? Any negative changes? Call a physician if you have doubts (or better yet - before you start taking any new supplements, just to make sure it’s ok for your body). And remember, while vitamins and herbs can be very good for you, they may not have the same effects on everyone. Read Care/of’s suggestions and then do a little research of your own.

Vitafive

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

If you’d rather have gummies than vitamins, give Vitafive a shot! These aren’t just for kids either - they’re for the whole family. But you can opt to order either kid packs or personalized adult packs on their site.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Once you order, the daily packs are sent out to you every 4 weeks. The best part is they contain only 5-10 carbs and 4-7 grams of sugar per pack!

If you opt for the adult packs, you can select from 8 varieties:

And  if you want to know more about what’s in each one, just click on ‘more  information’, and you’ll see a popup like this (this one was for the  probiotic gummies):

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Here’s our comparison summary for Vitafive:

  • Cancellation policy: Yes, the site has details in their Terms and Conditions section, including these statements: “You may cancel Custom Vitapack Plans with two business days’ notice before the next monthly renewal date", and, “You may cancel Predetermined Vitapack Plans with two weeks’ notice before the next monthly renewal date.” (Some reviews indicated users had difficulty when attempting to cancel their subscriptions; follow-up phone calls were required).
  • Do Vitafive vitamins actually work? How good are they? Available reviews appear to be positive and most are favorable on both the company and the products — however, as stated previously, it can be difficult to measure how well vitamins are actually working without scientific testing.
  • Side effects: None are listed, but it's always wise to contact your physician before taking any new supplements if you are currently on a prescription or have a history of allergies, etc.
  • How often should you take Vitafive vitamins? They don't specify, but it is recommended users take their gummies at roughly the same time daily; perhaps, as some have suggested, as an "after lunch treat".
  • DNA sample required? No.
  • FDA compliance? Not specified.
  • Are Vitafive vitamins organic? Their site states that "at this time, we are not 100% organic. Most products have organic ingredients, yet are not technically considered organic.”

Pros:

  • Gummies are made with pectin instead of gelatin (details here on why that’s a bonus)
  • They're gluten-free, and many are vegan
  • Pleasant tasting
  • Easy to toss in kids' lunches
  • Just grab and go when busy, no sorting through the vitamin bottles

Cons:

  • Some reviews indicate users had trouble cancelling subscriptions and postponing orders
  • Although it's a very small amount, there is a little dose of sugar in each pack, which isn't great for those who try to avoid it

Bottom Line:

If you love gummies (or have kids who do), will eat these daily for an undetermined amount of time, and don't mind if cancelling and postponing takes a while, these are for you.

Multiply Labs

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

For those who'd prefer a single capsule over a handful of vitamins,Multiply Labs has arrived.

With a system that first collects your personal demographic and dietary specifics, then 3-D prints the customized vitamin capsule with compartments filled with your ideal vitamin and nutrient composition, San Francisco-based Multiply Labs appears to be onto something pretty cutting edge. Here's a video explaining it.

... designed to be time-released as you need it (i.e., some get the caffeine after lunch), for optimal nutrient absorption. Here's a video demonstration, and a diagram showing the 3D compartments:

According to company spokesperson Tiffany Kuo, the process utilizes a “fully automated, robotic filling system to fill each pill with each customer’s unique set of supplements and quantity combinations."

Whenever you're ready to order, their capsules are sent every 2 weeks (instead of every month, like other vitamin subscriptions), and you can change the contents of your capsules as needed.

You'll get the first 15 days of capsules for $1, and then you'll be billed in two-week increments of $30 after that.

And you get an attractive refillable box for your capsules, too:

Here’s our comparison summary for Multiply Labs:

  • Cancellation policies: Although it does state at the bottom of the order page that I can cancel at any time, there was nothing specific found on the site about how to do so.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

  • Do Multiply Labs vitamins actually work? How good are they? It can be difficult to determine how well a vitamin is working without a blood test or scientific method, but so far no negative reviews have been found. (Very few customer reviews at all could be found, to be honest, as this is a fairly new company. Keep an eye out as time goes on to see how customers respond.)
  • Side effects: There are none listed, but users should consult their physicians before taking a new supplement if they are on prescriptions or have a history of allergic reactions.

How often should you take Multiply Labs vitamins? There is only capsule to take, and should be taken at roughly the same time each day.
  • DNA sample required? No.
  • FDA compliance: Dietary supplements generally are not regulated by the FDA. However, Multiply Labs follows GMP standards and produces their capsules in a facility certified by the California Department of Public Health. For more details, go here.

They also share this common statement on the bottom edge of their site:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

  • Are Multiply Labs vitamins organic? Their site does not state that their ingredients or products are organic.

Pros:

  • Handy, personalized capsules to be taken once daily keeps your routine simple
  • Adjust contents of your capsules any time you wish
  • Impressively innovative

Cons:

  • Expensive compared to some other personalized vitamin options

Bottom Line:

Cutting edge technology meets personalized health/wellness. Great for those who prefer one capsule to a handful of vitamins. Stories of customers shared on their site are inspiring. If you can afford it and want to try something new, give it a shot.

Nutrigene

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

If you'd rather swallow a liquid vitamin than a tablet or capsule, Nutrigene's got you covered. Turns out there are good reasons to go with a fluid, too — namely because liquids provide 98% absorption vs. the 9% afforded by their firmer counterparts, making for a fresher, more potent vitamin.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

To get started, the Nutrigene site asks you to complete a brief health survey, similar to others we did earlier. Based on those results, they make a recommendation for you on one of their 3 types of supplements: Essentials, Elite, or Gut Health.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

In my case, they recommended an Elite formulation:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Improving my performance for only $5.36 per day sounds kind of affordable, so I clicked in to get more information. The monthly rate for my supplements was shown: $149.99 per month. Whoa. Seeing the price broken down per day definitely makes it seem more affordable than seeing it calculated per month. At least there's an option to save 10% with automatic renewal.

For some of us, this may still be affordable though, so let's see what else we can find out about this very interesting product:

Here’s our comparison summary for Nutrigene:

  • Cancellation policy: Subscriptions can be cancelled anytime by emailing support@mynutrigene.com.
  • Do Nutrigene vitamins actually work? How good are they? As previously noted, it can be difficult to determine the efficacy of a vitamin without scientific methods. Although their site does include research references, they're mostly in support of the brand's liquid formulations and such, and not specifically about how well their products work for customers.
  • Side effects: There are none listed, but as previously mentioned, users should consult their physicians before  taking a new supplement if they are on prescriptions or have a history  of allergic reactions.
  • How often should you take Nutrigene vitamins? You'll receive a month's supply with each order, with instructions to take one liquid vial per day. Doing it at the same time every day or placing the vials near your coffee maker or something similar may help you to remember — but there are no timetables included.
  • DNA sample required? No.
  • FDA compliance: Dietary supplements generally are not regulated by the FDA. Additionally, their site features this common statement:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

  • Are Nutrigene vitamins organic? Their site does not state their products or ingredients are organic.

Pros:

  • Nutrigene's liquid formulas are more bioavailable than tablets or capsules, allowing for greater absorption
  • Great for those who have trouble swallowing pills
  • Adjustable over time as needed

Cons:

  • Expensive compared to other vitamin subscriptions

Bottom Line:

If you have trouble swallowing pills or otherwise prefer a more bioavailable liquid formula vitamin, and your wallet doesn't object, this could be for you.

VitaminLab

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

You can also build your own custom formula without their suggestions here.

Available in a stevia-sweetened mixed berry flavored powder or capsule form (with a choice of gelatin or vegetable-based capsule), VitaminLab provides dosage instructions on each label.

Practitioners in Canada and the U.S. are also invited to create personalized formulas for their patients or a private formula of their own to stock within their practice as well:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Here’s our comparison summary for VitaminLab:

  • Cancellation policy: As their site states you can cancel your subscription at any time prior to your next month's supply shipping.
  • Do VitaminLab vitamins actually work? How good are they? As previously noted, it can be difficult to determine the efficacy of a vitamin without scientific methods.
  • Side effects: There are none listed.
  • How often should you take VitaminLabs vitamins? They don't offer a timetable, but instructions are included on each label.
  • DNA sample required? That is one of 3 options on their site. They accept all forms of blood and DNA testing from many of the major companies including Spectracell, Genova Diagnostics, 23&Me, DNAFit  and InsideTracker. You can also take a personalized health survey on their site, or opt to send them your blood and have their testing done to get your customized formula.
  • FDA compliance: Dietary supplements generally are not regulated by the FDA. However, their site does state that, "Our formulas are made in a FDA licensed facility in Canada, and we are located in British Columbia, Canada."
  • Are VitaminLabs vitamins organic? Although they do share their ingredients are non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, and 'all-natural', they are not stated to be specifically organic.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Pros:

  • Customization according to DNA available
  • Powder form is a tasty mixed berry flavor
  • Ships worldwide

Cons:

  • Pricey

Bottom Line:

Prices vary on this according to the test method you choose and other preferences - but the average 5 capsules per day are about $110/month. This isn't cheap, but if you want to fine-tune things according to your DNA and you bank account can handle it, it might be for you.

  • Cancellation policy: You can cancel your subscription anytime, up to 7 days before your renewal rate. Cancel via email or in your members dashboard.
  • Do Vitamin Buddy UK vitamins actually work? How good are they? As previously noted, it can be difficult to determine the efficacy of a vitamin without scientific methods. However, customer reviews indicate feeling more energetic, better-looking skin, and just generally "healthier."
  • Side effects: There are none listed.
  • How often should you take Vitamin Buddy UK vitamins? They recommend taking your daily sachets at the same time every day, preferably after or during meals to aid absorption.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

  • DNA sample required? No.
  • FDA compliance: Dietary supplements generally are not regulated by the FDA. However, this site states that they create their supplements in the UK with good manufacturing processes.
  • Are Vitamin Buddy UK vitamins organic? These are all vegan (with the exception of collagen), approved by The Vegetarian Society, gluten-free, filler-free, but not organic.

Pros:

  • Easy tailored plan
  • On time, professional delivery
  • Free quiz to start customization

Cons:

  • Worldwide shipping doesn't start until 2019 (currently shipping to UK and Ireland)

Bottom Line:

These are handy, well-packaged, and affordable. Great for everyone in UK and Ireland (including the vegetarians and vegans), they offer short-term and long-term subscriptions suited to customer tastes.

  • Do Ritual vitamins actually work? How good are they? As previously noted, it can be difficult to determine the efficacy of a vitamin without scientific methods.
  • Side effects: There are none listed.
  • How often should you take Ritual vitamins? No, but they recommend you take two capsules together in either the morning or evening of each day. Doesn't matter if it's with food or without.
  • DNA sample required? No.
  • FDA compliance: The FDA does not regulate dietary supplements. Their site posts this common statement on the matter:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

  • Are Ritual vitamins organic? These are vegan as well as dairy, gluten, nut, and sugar-free — but nowhere on the site does it state they're organic.

Pros:

  • Designed specifically for women, discarding the unnecessary and including 9 often overlooked essential female nutrients
  • Affordable
  • Minty taste with a formula designed to prevent nausea
  • Comes with a happiness guarantee

Cons:

  • May be hard for some to swallow the 2 capsules twice daily

Bottom Line:

This is a new women's vitamin that comes with a happiness guarantee — so if you don't like your first bottle, you'll get a full refund without hesitation. Designed to include what you need and keep out what you don't at a decent price, we think you can't go wrong with this one (if you are female, that is).

VITL

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Another UK-based gem, VITL creates personalized supplements for you based on your own health report on their questionnaire-type consultation, a blood test, or a DNA test. They also make prenatal vitamins, protein super-blends, and more.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

The consultation just takes a few minutes, and then you receive your results:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

I was given recommendations and was invited to check further with a blood test or DNA test. But I was content with my consultation-based results, so I went in further on those:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

At a price of $34.99, I couldn't be happier! (AND, if you purchase the app, you'll get VITL PRO, which gives you access to meal and exercise planning and more.) So let's get into some other details and I'll go make my purchase.

P.S. — VITL is also available now at many GNC stores across the United States — check here for one near you.

Here’s our comparison summary:

  • Cancellation policy: You can cancel your VITL subscription at any time by following the instructions here.
  • Do VITL vitamins actually work? How good are they? As previously stated, it's difficult to know for sure if vitamins are "working" for their intended purposes without a blood test or similar science. If you were to take the blood test, for example, and then take another in 3 months, perhaps you could compare them and find out!
  • Side effects: There are none listed.
  • How often should you take VITL vitamins? No, but it's generally recommended to take your vitamins at the same time each day, preferably with a meal.
  • DNA sample required? It is one of three options available on this site.
  • FDA compliance: The FDA does not typically regulate dietary supplements.
  • Are VITL vitamins organic? It does not state so on their website.

Pros:

  • Customized vitamin recommendations in less than 5 minutes
  • High quality supplements at an affordable price
  • Helpful customer service

Cons:

  • Fewer options for those with dietary restrictions (i.e. only two varieties of the Essentials are vegan)

Bottom Line:

These are a reasonably priced customized vitamin. Sounds like you'll get more bang for your buck if you buy the app with it. Looks like a great product, but there are very few customer reviews available - so try it at your own risk.

Dr. Weil's Vitamin Advisor

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

If you're into integrative medicine and are looking for a bit more in-depth health evaluation (without the DNA or blood tests), visit Dr. Weil's Vitamin Advisor. Dr. Weil's health evaluation questionnaire features 3 separate sections of questions including cardiovascular health, digestive health, sleep quality, any current diagnosis or medications, and more.

Recognize Dr. Weil? He's a leading practitioner of integrative medicine and has been on the Dr. Oz show numerous times. He also writes a column for Prevention magazine. Read more about him here. Integrative health is explained here.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

It took a few minutes longer for me to finish Dr. Weil's evaluation, but once completed, I got my recommendations immediately (well, you do have to set up an account first, but after that it was immediate):

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

The price is lower than some, but higher than others. Also, I question some of the advice on supplements given, but I won't argue with the evaluation. So anyway, if you like the price of the plan presented, you can add  it to your cart for a 30-day supply. You can reorder on your own as you wish or sign up for automatic renewal/refills, which works like having a vitamin subscription.

Or, you could just shop if you already know which vitamins you need

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Here’s our comparison summary:

  • Cancellation policy: You can cancel your subscription (or alter your shipments) at any time by  accessing the 'My Account' Page on the website.
  • Do Dr. Weil's vitamins actually work? How good are they? As previously stated, it's difficult to determine whether vitamins are working without a blood test or other scientific evidence. However, it should be noted that Dr. Weil maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
  • Side effects: None are listed, but the site does say this: Certain medications may deplete your body of some nutrients or  interfere with their absorption. Medications can also interact negatively with particular nutrients or herbs. To prevent either of  these possibilities, we make sure to eliminate pills that contain ingredients that might react adversely with your medication, or we recommend a specific supplement to ensure that your body does not become  deficient in this nutrient.
  • How often should you take Dr. Weil's vitamins? They say you should take supplements with a reasonably sized meal that contains fat, which will aid in your body digesting and absorbing the nutrients while also reducing discomfort. Also, drink plenty of fluids, preferably water. If you're taking a bedtime pack, it's best taken on an empty stomach one hour to thirty minutes before bedtime. Here are more tips on how to get the most from your supplements:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

  • DNA sample required? No.
  • FDA compliance: All Weil Vitamin Advisor products are made by manufacturers who must meet their strict guidelines for quality control, as well as current Good Manufacturing Practices in all aspects of production, testing and packaging. Their custom vitamin packs are filled in a pharmaceutical grade facility, which helps them to maintain maximum freshness of the vitamins and supplements that arrive at your door.
  • Are Dr. Weil's vitamins organic? The site states that their products are "...sourced from whole foods and organic herbs whenever possible" and "our Digestive Comfort contains organic, non-GMO soybean oil." Otherwise, the answer appears to be 'no'.

Pros:

  • A thorough health evaluation tool created by 2 internationally renowned integrative medical doctors is utilized
  • Dr. Weil maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau
  • Integrative medicine looks at the whole person to determine the best nutritional or lifestyle suggestions, not just the system related to a specific symptom

Cons:

  • Not everyone accepts the methods of integrative medicine; some refer to it as 'quackery'

Bottom Line:

If you're a fan of integrative medicine and trust Dr. Weil's evaluation, go for it. He's well-known and maintains a high rating on the BBB. If your gut tells you otherwise, keep shopping.

Vitamins3

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

For those who'd appreciate more frequent virtual check-ins, Vitamins3 updates customer data via surveys every month, keeping personalized information current and ensuring the optimal vitamin recommendations are still in effect.

There are only 3 steps involved (hence the name 'Vitamins3'):

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

And the best part is, you'll be working with an AI doctor on this site, which will use deep learning to construct your ideal personalized vitamin consistency using these nutrients.

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

You can also get a free trial (this pops up when you first click into their site):

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

So I decided to give it a try and did the survey, which resulted in me receiving this recommendation:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Interested to find out what exactly was in the recommended vitamins, I clicked around. I found this screen to purchase the recommended subscription:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

Then I strolled onto this page:

best personalized vitamin subscriptions

But no matter where I clicked, I could not find out exactly what was being recommended to me inside this monthly vitamin. This seems like a secretive little AI doctor!

Anyway, if you're fine with buying an AI doctor's recommended vitamin without any explanation of what's in it, go with this one. There may be ingredients on the label once sent, or you may find some information somewhere that I missed. (Let me know if you do - I'd be pleased to know about it!)

Otherwise, you can also read up on health-related topics on the site's blog while you're on there. Aside from that, you can follow them on Instagram, FaceBook, and YouTube - but there isn't much else on the site as far as information.

Here’s our comparison summary:

Cancellation policy: You can cancel at any time by notifying the company in writing no later than five business days before your next package is shipped, and the cancellation will take effect for the following month.

Do Vitamins3 vitamins actually work? How good are they? It's difficult to determine a vitamin's efficacy without a blood test, as previously stated. Additionally, there were no negative customer reviews found pertaining to this product (nor any reviews at all).

Side effects: None are listed.

How often should you take Vitamins3 vitamins? Not specified, but perhaps the label on the product, once received, will have instructions on this.

DNA sample required? No.

FDA compliance: Dietary supplements are generally not regulated by the FDA. However, the site's Terms of Service page does state that,"Reliance on the Website, the Services and the Content is solely at your  own risk. Information provided on the Website and the use of any products or services purchased from our Website by you DOES NOT create a doctor-patient relationship between you and any of the health professionals affiliated with our Website. Information and statements  regarding dietary supplements have not been evaluated by the Food and  Drug Administration and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease."

Are Vitamins3 vitamins organic? They provide product details, but do not state they are organic.

Pros:

  • Advanced technology is in effect here with AI making your vitamin recommendations
  • Personalized info is kept current with monthly surveys
  • Mid-range pricing compared to similar subscription services

Cons:

  • Not enough information provided on their site

Bottom Line:

If you're interested in trying this, more power to you. It's probably perfectly fine. Just be clear: they're advising you here to get a more accurate or complete opinion first.

Author's Note: I am not a doctor, nor do I suggest anyone take or avoid any of the products discussed here. This article is for informational purposes only. Please consult your physician before taking anything new to make sure it's right for your body.
