Acupressure Therapy for Thyroid Disorders
Acupressure therapy plays important role for treatment of diseases which often don't show any symptoms at earlier stages like thyroid conditions. Thyroid disorders are common disorders of the thyroid gland.
Thyroid hormones regulate our body's metabolism and influence virtually every organ system in the body. They tell organs how fast or slow they should work. Thyroid hormones also regulate the body's consumption of oxygen and production of heat. Thyroid problems, such as an overactive or underactive thyroid, can severely affect metabolism.
When there is something wrong with the thyroid gland, you will be considerably more tired, and you could put on a lot of weight, because the metabolism can be affected. Having thyroid disorders, leads to changes in metabolism and obesity apart from other problems. Thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism have been linked to weight gain in recent scientific studies. The Thyroid hormone is an important endocrine hormone which is necessary for many physiological functions. It is also responsible for the increasing the rate of metabolic activity and synthesis of certain enzymes.
Hypothyroidism can be naturally cured by Yoga, Naturopathy or Acupressure but first the diagnosis has to be confirmed by lab tests.
The thyroid is a small gland just under the skin on the front of the neck. This gland plays a very important role in controlling the body’s metabolism and how the body functions. It does this by producing hormones that tell the body how fast to work and how to use energy - Unused energy turns into fat.
Thyroid hormones play a major part in creating the correct metabolic rate. If it is not functioning properly everything slows down leading to these classic symptoms:
- weight gain
- cold hands and feet
- difficulty focusing and remembering
- Hair loss.
The list can go on and on including many problems with the female reproductive system including menstrual disorders, endometriosis, and breast cancer.
Hypothyroidism is caused by low activity of the thyroid gland, which results in the underproduction of thyroid hormones. Because thyroid hormones initiate energy production and are involved in governing metabolism, a deficiency can cause fatigue followed by apathy and lethargy.
Detecting Thyroid problem using Acupressure
A great benefit of acupressure is that both detecting and cure of a disease is done the same way. Tenderness or pain indicates thyroid problem.
Acupressure points for treatment of thyroid conditions:
* An acupressure point that can be used to help with thyroid problems is between the center of the eyes, which stimulates pituitary function.
K 27: For the thyroid problem, you need to activate the Thyroid Points, Press each point for about 8 - 10 times and do this for 3 times a day.
Stimulating two acupressure points that sit on the back of your neck, (just above the vertebra that forms a bump when you tilt your head forward) can help you release any excess energy and restore the smooth flow of qi to your thyroid. Probe the areas on either side and just above this bony protrusion until you find tender spots. Massage, then press and hold these points until you feel a relaxing numbness radiating out from them. If you haven't worked on these points previously, it can take a few minutes before you feel relief in this area.
* The points near the big toe of your feet should also be pressed.
Treat thyroid problems by using acupressure with tips from a doctor of Oriental medicine.
By learning how to stimulate your own pressure points, you can relieve minor or moderate symptoms, and reduce the need for nonprescription drugs. Unlike most drugs, relief is usually immediate.
