These are the ten largest oil producing countries in the world based upon average daily production of crude oil. Some people will be very surprised that the United States is the third largest producer of oil in the world but the United States does consume far more oil than it produces since it is the largest economy in the world by a large margin. When most people think of oil and countries they think of the Middle East which does have four of the top ten oil producing countries in the world.
1) Saudi Arabia - 10.8 million barrels of oil per day

Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the Middle East and 14th largest country in the world and the number one producer of crude oil with average daily production of around 10.8 million barrels per day.
2) Russia - 9.8 million barrels per day

Russia is the largest country in the world by area by a large margin and the second largest producer of crude oil in the world at 9.8 million barrels per day.
3) United States - 8.5 million barrels per day

The United States is the 3rd largest producer of oil in the world which surprises many people and of course the United States leads all countries in daily consumption of oil. The United States is the 4th largest country in the world by size and produces 8.5 million barrels of oil a day.
4) Iran - 4.2 million barrels of oil per day

Iran is the 4th largest producer of oil in the world and 2nd largest oil producer in the Middle East at 4.2 million barrels per day. Iran is the 18th largest country in the world in size.
5) China - 4 million barrels of oil per day

China is the 5th largest producer of oil in the world at 4 million barrels per day and the 3rd largest country in the world by size. China is actively increasing its oil production to meet its own increasing demand from its rapidly growing economy which just overtook Japan as the 2nd largest economy in the world after the United States.
