The brothers had fixed the name for the restaurant as "Big Tex," but had to change it and choose “Arby’s” because the other name was being used by an Akron business. Hence they had to choose the name "Arby's,". The name is said to be based on R.B., which stands for Raffel Brothers. Also, it could stand for "Roast Beef". 

Arby’s Growth and Expansion

Arby’s grew much during the 1970s and this time Arby’s had an expansion rate of nearly 50 stores per year. Arby’s introduced new menu items during this time. Menu items inculding two signature sauces: Arby’s BBQ sauce and horsey sauce, the Beef ‘n Cheddar, curly fries and jamocha shakes were introduced during this period. During early 1980s Abry’s included chicken in its menu. The number of locations rose to 1,000 by this time. Arby’s was the first among restaurants to offer a "lite" menu in 1991. The special menu included several sandwiches and salads. It was so special because it was under 300 calories and ninety four percent fat free also. In an agreement with Pepsi-Co during early 2006s, Arby's Restaurant Group (ARG) chose Pepsi as the chain's exclusive soft drink provider.
