This series is intended to understand the various parts of anatomy along with general emergencies that occur to that part of the human body explained in simple language. HOMOEOPATHY has been in vogue all over the world with good success and fame as a practice of medicine. Each part of anatomy will be followed by a range of specific remedies from homoeopathy. This is just for sharing the knowledge and should not be considered as prescription to any conditions.

EYES:

We all hear that face is the index of the mind, and eyes portray the health of any individual. The most common emergencies that involve the eyes and eyelids are a possibility of minor injuries to the eyes caused due to foreign bodies getting lodged into the eyes. This could be because of driving in polluted atmosphere, or doing jobs like cutting, grinding, and welding without wearing protective eye-glasses.

Most of these foreign bodies get washed off by the tears that are produced in the eyes, due to the irritation. There could be redness and pain associated with swelling of eyes and eyelids, due to the injury. A gentle clearing away of the object, using clean-edge of a cotton hand-kerchief, after gently pulling down the lower-eyelid helps in relieving the pain and trouble. However, a doctor is to be consulted for ruling out inner eye damage.

Homoeopathy has a quite a range of medicines, carefully picked out and tested over the past centuries, which come effectively useful in case of eye troubles.

Most prominent among eye-remedies of Homeopathy are:

  1. Euphrasia: Also known as ‘EYE-BRIGHT’ this is an annual herb that is available in most parts of Europe. The plant has small yellowish white flowers. Euphrasia is indicated in redness of eyes, called CONJUCTIVITIS, with think, acrid discharges from the eyes. This also acts effectively as a medicine for little blisters on the cornea, and inflammation of the fluid contents of the eye ball.
  2. Cantharis: Extracted as medicine from the whole of ‘SPANISH FLY’, this is a great remedy for symptoms of irritation and burning. Constant itching and raw feeling of the eyes could be solved when this medicine is taken.
  3. Ruta Graveolens: This is a strong smelling, glandulose herb, commonly called as ‘SABAD’. This is useful for eye-irritation and headache that occurs when trying to read fine-print, and sewing. Eyes will be hot, read, painful, agitated and disturbed.
  4. Arnica Montana: Famously called as ‘LEOPARDS BANE’ this is a perennial herb appearing in most parts of Europe, Russia and US. It is a pre-historic remedy that is put to optimum beneficial use when there are bruises involved.
  5. Ambrosia: It is another annual herb found in Canada and Brazil, called commonly as ‘RAGWEED’. The remedy prepared out of this is useful to cure smarting and burning of eyes when there is profuse secretion of tears and itching of eyes.
  6. Sabadilla: This is a Mexican remedy, prepared out of ‘Cevadilla Seeds’. It has specific remedial action on the tear-glands that cause running nose, and profuse secretion of tears, due to irritation in the eyes.
  7. Cinnabaris: Indian Mythology has many great remedies secretly hidden in daily rituals. Smearing ones’ forehead with vermillion paste, made out of mercuric sulphide is one such surprising remedy, which keeps the eyes BRIGHT and trouble free. This is put to use as a medicine in homoeopathy to rectify troubles like pains in the eye-bones and sockets, redness of eyes, etc.

In the next article, another part of the human anatomy and its related homoeopathic remedies are discussed. Feel free to ask questions in the comment box.
