Alcoholic Party Food and Drink Ideas
EducationAlcoholic Party Food and Drink Ideas
Here are a few interesting ways to booze up your party, when you don't want to simply serve alcohol to your party guests in a glass try these fun uses of alcohol in party food and special party drinks!
Don Pedro
My favorite use of alcohol and ice cream. This creamy party drink takes no skill and a few minutes to prepare. Simply mix semi-melted vanilla ice cream with either Whiskey or Kahluha (coffee liqueur). It should be about a quarter of a cup of alcohol to a cup of ice cream. There are fancier recipes for this alcoholic party drink but this is the simplest version. You can add cream or serve the drink already in party glasses with a straw and umbrella in the drink. As with all these alcohol recipes start with less alcohol than you need and give it the taste test, then add more alcohol if you want to.
Spiked Watermelon
Take a shallow bowl and fill it with about an inch of Vodka, then put in chunks of fresh watermelon, mix them around a bit and provide toothpicks for your party guests to pick up the tipsy watermelon pieces. An alcoholic party food which is so juice your party guests will keep coming back for more.
Spiked Mango
Another version of the above alcoholic party food is mango cut up into chunks and served in a bowl of Tequila. Piece of orange can also be added.
Tipsy Fruit Salad
Normal party fruit salad but with a little more liquid so that it is almost a fruit punch but not quite. Make a regular fruit salad for your party and then add orange juice and alcohol, at a ratio of about a cup of orange juice for every 2 tablespoons of alcohol. Don't forget you can also add more alcohol so start off light and then give it the taste test. You can use most kinds of alcohol for this alcoholic party food but the best are Brandy, Rum, Gin, Vodka or Cointreau – but not all together of course! Try adding fresh mint and raisons to your alcoholic fruit salad as well.
Rum and Raison Ice Cream
Make your own Rum and raison ice cream but with real Rum and not Rum flavor or essence. Alcohol does not freeze well so don't add too much alcohol to this party food as the more you add the softer the ice cream will be. You only need a few spoon full's of Rum for every liter or quart of ice cream. Use a good vanilla ice cream, mix it with Rum and raisons which have been soaked in Rum for a while, then refreeze. A perfect alcoholic party dessert.
Brandy Cherries
For an alcoholic treat for your party guests give them this sweet dessert. Fresh cherries are best but if you have no other choice use the bottled or canned variety. Take the pips out of the cherries and soak them for a few hours in Kirsch (a fruit Brandy) or Conaque in a bowl in the fridge. This alcoholic party food can be served as party finger food with toothpicks to pick up the cherries or they can be served on top of vanilla ice cream or on top of hot chocolate cake with whipped cream. This alcoholic party food goes very well with melted chocolate. These Brandy soaked cherries can also be used baked in a cake.
Cake and Hic Frosting
What ever cake you are making for your party (preferably chocolate) add a drop of booze to the frosting. You can try a drop of Rum or Bailey's but my favorite cake frosting recipe is 2 bars (200grams) of melted dark chocolate with about a cup of cream and then add a few teaspoons of coffee or chocolate liquor. Use this to frost a chocolate or coffee cake for a great alcoholic party cake. How about making chocolate cup cakes, frosted with alcoholic frosting and with a brandy soaked cherry on top!
There are other alcoholic cooking and baking ideas that can be used for party food but the alcohol is not as prominent. For example red wine is often used in cooking, and beer can also be used in a number of recipes, however the recipes above have alcohol as one of their main ingredients and not just a faint flavor. For adult parties give these alcoholic party treats a try, but always label them as containing alcohol!
