The World's Largest Hotels

Updated April 9, 2012
5 minute read

It would seem that hotels across the world are forever striving to become larger and grander than ever before.

Many of these massive hotels are located over large areas of land and are generally known as resort hotels, or they are situated within several buildings that make up one large hotel complex.

Some modern, hotels also tend to be part of entertainment venues, office complexes and apartment blocks, with the hotel actually taking up just a part of the overall building.

When people ask which is the largest hotel, most of them generally mean which hotel has the most rooms, or how many people can a hotel accommodate at any one time.

So, on this proviso, I will list below some of the world's largest hotels by room number, meaning that these hotels may not in fact be the largest hotels in terms of acreage of complex area in which they are situated.

                                                            THE WORLD'S FIVE LARGEST HOTELS

#1)

Number one on the list therefore has to be the 7,500 bedroomed, three star, Izmailovo Hotel situated in Russia's capital Moscow, which can accommodate upwards of 10,000 people at any one time.

This massive hotel complex is situated within four, thirty storey towers - known as Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta - on what was the site of the former Izmailovo Royal Estate and village, which was once the boyhood holiday home of Tzar, Peter The Great.

Completed in 1979, the hotel was built in anticipation of the many visitors to the Summer Olympic Games held in Moscow in 1980.

#2)

Following hot on the heels of the world's largest hotel comes the 7,117 roomed Venetian, in the U.S city of Las Vegas.

Like most of the Las Vegas hotels, the Venetian is classified as a Casino Resort, and is the largest resort of it's kind in the world, with over 4,000 suites, 3,059 rooms and an eleven thousand square metre casino housed within three towers of 52, 37 and 13 storeys.

This five star mega resort was two years in the building on what was the site of the former 1950's iconic Sands Hotel, and opened it's doors on May 3, 1999.

#3)

Hotel number three is also situated in Las Vegas, and is the iconic, green, glass fronted MGM Grand Hotel, situated on the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard at the beginning of the world famous Las Vegas Strip.

Built in 1993 the 6,852 roomed hotel is situated in a 293 foot high, 30 storey tower situated on a 6.6 acre casino resort.

#4)

The world's fourth largest hotel is the 6,118 roomed First World Hotel in Gentings Highland, Malaysia.

The hotel is part of a 46,000 square metre, First World theme park complex, built in 2006.

This unique, brightly painted hotel is housed in two, 28 storey towers.

#5)

For the world's fifth largest hotel I have chosen the majestic Las Vegas, Bellagio Hotel, it is actually the world's twelth largest hotel by room number, but I chose this particular one because, unlike the other eleven hotels before it, the Bellagio Hotel is situated in just one main building, making it unique compared to the other hotels.

The thirty six storey, 3,933 roomed Bellagio Hotel opened it's doors on the 15th of October 1998 and was built on the site of the former 1950's iconic, Dunes Hotel.
