I read this article and thought it was pretty interesting. It gives a fair summary of the importance of the number eight, but what about all the other important numbers. Almost any number can have significance (one is the loneliest number, it takes two to tango etc.). But some seem to be more important than others. Here is a summary of some of the more important numbers.
3 - Three is of special importance largely due to the Bible. There are three parts to God: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Other instances of three include, the Three Stooges, three parts of the self (body, mind, soul) and three gifts given to baby Jesus by the Magi. It is the number of main characters in the Harry Potter series (Harry, Ron, Hermione). Three is also popular for counting down before the word ‘go’ (i.e. three-two-one go!).
4 - Four is significant in some Asian cultures, where the word for ‘four’ is a homonym for ‘death’. In western cultures, four is the number of members in a standard rock band (singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer), and the number of people in a nuclear family (father, mother, son, daughter). It is the number of cylinders in the engine of some small cars and the number of fingers on your hand, not counting the thumb.
6(66) - Six-six-six is, supposedly, the number of the beast. According to Christian eschatology, when the end of the world is near, an Anti-Christ will arise. He will brand everybody with his sign, 666, the number of the beast. Six is also a popular number of cylinders in car engines and the character Tricia Helfer plays on Battlestar Galactica. Furthermore, six is the number of steps it takes to connect anyone in Hollywood to Kevin Bacon.
7 - Lucky number seven. Seven is the number of days God took to create everything (he rested on the seventh day). It is the number of days in a week. It is also the number of digits in a phone number without the area code, the number of Wonders in the ancient world and is the number of items people can hold in their short term memory (plus or minus two)

12 - In the Bible, the number of Jesus’ Apostles. Bruce Willis had 12 Monkeys, there were 12 Angry Men and there are 12 models of Cylons on Battlestar Galactica. There are twelve zodiac signs in both western and eastern zodiac systems and, of course, twelve months in a year. There are also Twelve Days of Christmas according to the song of the same name.
13 - Thirteen is bad luck in western societies. Some older buildings don’t have a thirteenth floor and some supermarkets don’t have a thirteenth aisle. The negative association may be because of the fact that there were thirteen people at the Last Supper. It is the first year you are a teenager and the number of baked goods you get in a bakers dozen.
42 - According to Douglas Adams, forty-two is the answer to life, the universe and everything. What the question is is a different matter entirely. In “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe” the question is revealed to be “What do you get if you multiply six by nine?”
4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 : Not a number, but a series of numbers popularized by the television series Lost. They appear repeatedly throughout the series and have infiltrated pop culture as well. 4, 8 and 42 have already appeared on this list.
