You don't say how much weight you are trying to lose, which may be a factor in deciding how to do so.  First, before attempting to lose any weight, be sure to get your doctor's approval.  Various diets affect people differently and your doctor is the person to talk to about the best plan for you. In general, however, you may wish to use Atkins, South Beach, or Zone principles. It seems these diets that are higher in protein than many and lower in carbs, especially refined carbs, can help you shed weight a little more quickly.  If you try something more drastic (a fast, for instance), stay on it only 2-3 days before moving to a more traditional diet program.  Bottom line is you have to take in fewer calories than you need and be active enough to burn 3500 calories just to lose a pound. Often high losses in the first few days are due to water loss, usually because of the restrictive diet.  Be sure, therefore, to drink lots of water. It can be your best friend. And exercise regularly. At least 30 minutes 5-6 times a week, although you will probably have to start slower than that so that you acclimate your body to these changes in routine.  There are no easy answers despite the proliferation of diets out there.  That's why you need to be realistic about how much weight you will really be losing in one month. Remember that the people on programs like the Biggest Loser are all being carefully monitoried by doctors during these extreme diets.  In real life, that seldom happens.

Sterling advice from my two peers here, but one other thing you need to take on board is that you must stay focused.

The biggest problem for any dieter is sticking to it.

Remember this, only one person got you big, so only one person can make you small again, so whatever it is in your lifestyle causing your weight gain, stop doing it. 

Eat less rubbish, cut out alcohol, exercise more and  most importantly stay focused.

Add lemon and honey in warm water and drink in the morning on empty stomach. Do simple exercises. Also take plenty of watery fruits as water-melon.

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. You can lose weight if you have the desire and determination to do it. Most of us are addicted to our eating patterns that keep us overwieght. Most doctors now are just advocating a healthy eating plan, rather than restricting calories too much. If you eat more of the good nutriitious foods and less of the empty carbs and empty calories you will see a difference. Highly processed carbs causes us to become insulin resistant. If you have a significant amount of belly fat, chances are that you are eating too many highly processed foods. Try eating whole grain foods and whole foods rather than the processed foods. 

Also watch your portion sizes... go with the recommended serving sizes when you look up calories. Your plate should be half fruits and vegetables and 1/4 protein and 1/4 unprocessed carbs like a baked potato or something like whole grain bread. That's the way I do it and it is successful.

There are many diet plans that promise quick or rapid results. Quick weight loss mostly doesn't fall under the safe/permanent category. So try a healthy diet plan including fiber. protiens, nutrients and low in fat. Regular exercise most important jogging, rope jumping, stair climbing help you more to burn extra calories. Try to eat less carb after 4pm and eat 3 hour before going to bed. Take soup, green tea, lemon juice with little warm water.
