How to Get Rid of Dandruff: Natural Home Remedies for Dandruff Treatment

The falling of dried skin flakes from the scalp is called dandruff. Fortunately, dandruff can be controlled and cured by some natural home remedies. Try one of these natural home remedies to get rid of dandruff and prevent your hair from damages.
Dandruff is often as symptom of seborrheic dermatitis, which typically occurs when dry pieces of your scalp flake off into your hair. Fortunately, dandruff is such a common affliction that there are scores of products available for treating dandruff. Severe dandruff is similar to normal dandruff; however, those who suffer from this condition often experience redness and inflammation of the scalp. Although removing dandruff and keeping it from coming back can be challenging, there are a few things you can do to keep dandruff at bay. 1. Coat your fingertips in coconut oil and warm the oil between your hands. Warm oil can temporary moisturize the scalp to stop further flakes. Dab it onto your scalp sparingly; too much can make your hair look greasy. 2. Shampoo your hair on a daily basis. Since the cause of dandruff is likely overproductive oil glands in your scalp, keep them dry by frequently washing your hair. Once per day should be adequate to keep dandruff at bay.Scrub the shampoo into your scalp, taking special care to use your fingernails to lift away any flakes that you can feel. Scrub for at least five minutes before you rinse your hair with warm water. 3. Apply an olive oil treatment to the scalp. Dip your fingers into olive oil. Apply the oil to your scalp, using gentle circular motions. Cover the entire scalp, but not the length of the hair. Once the scalp is covered with oil, cover the head with plastic wrap or a shower cap. Cover the plastic wrap with a warm towel, and leave on for 45 minutes. Rinse well with lukewarm water, then shampoo as usual. 4. Apply vitamin E oil directly to your scalp, massaging into the roots of your hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Vitamin E oil helps to soften your scalp. 5. Add 2 tsp. of tea tree oil to 1 quart of water. Mix both and apply to the roots of your hair. This mixture helps to reduce fungal infection in your scalp. 6. Apply over-the-counter anti-itch creams. Topical steroids such as hydrocortisone can reduce swelling and itching. 7. Relax with a cup of tea or a yoga session when you feel stressed. Stress and fatigue can lead to new dandruff outbreaks while worsening existing dandruff. 8. Eat more foods that contain zinc (such as fish or nuts) and B vitamins (such as turkey, tuna and avocado), which may help to prevent dandruff. Talk to your doctor if dandruff flakes don't improve after over-the-counter treatment. Your doctor may prescribe a stronger medicated lotion or shampoo to apply to your scalp.
