Antioxidant properties of eggplant also come from phenolic compounds such as acid and chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid is known for anti-cancer activities. Antioxidant properties reduce the oxidative damage and thus lower the risk of developing cancers. Besides, dietary fiber content in eggplant is very good in the prevention and treatment of colon cancer. The skin of the eggplant not only contains great antioxidant properties but also contains high dietary fiber compounds.

Caution: Eggplant contains certain amounts of oxalates that can cause health problems to the individuals with kidney or gallbladder problems.
