What to Do with Excess Vegetables from Your Garden
Gardeners can find it rather difficult to think of how they can use too many vegetables that grow in their garden. Too many overgrown vegetables will cause you to waste most of them because you’ll be unable to finish everything in a fixed time. However, you can fix this problem by using the vegetables for other purposes. Let’s read below to know more!
1) Share with your neighbours!
If your family don’t have the interest to eat all the vegetables, you can certainly share it out with your neighbours for free. Your darling neighbours would enjoy what they needed and you could provide it to them without having to spend anything. This may also convince them to cook and hand out any food they make and help build a friendship.
2) Using a root cellar!
A root cellar is a good option for storing unwanted fruits and vegetables. If you have overly grown food, keep them stored in the root cellars when they’re not used. It provides a cool environment during the summer months when the heat could cause your fruits and vegetables to spoil. Root cellars can also be used throughout winter to help maintain humidity levels and prevent freezing. This method should only be used when you live in a bulky space as root cellars are built underground.
3) Sell your vegetables!
No person wants to waste a stock of overgrown fruits and vegetables particularly when they can be sold for money. You can sell them yourself by organising a fruit and vegetable sale or even ask the local market if they are interested. Firstly, when you put the responsibility to yourself, you need to realise that you need to put in more effort than selling to a local market. More work is needed and you won’t be very successful if you’re not following the footsteps correctly. Work includes advertising, designing flyers and displaying your foods for customers. On the other hand, selling fruits and vegetables to any market allows you to grab the money fast but you won’t be as profitable as selling them alone. In both cases, the key to profit is to maintain a high quality stock or the money will not come into your hands.
4) Provide healthier eating choices on your table!
Vegetables can be used in cooking as well as individual eating. This can be one of the best ways of helping family members to diet. Whilst laying your dishes for the family, include healthier dishes with a separate dish for each member containing a blend of different fruits and vegetables which look more appealing. Thus, eating the leftover foods can help you avoid wasting but also improve the health of your family.
Some may believe that an overabundance of food can be a waste. We all understand that too much food may become a waste, but you can use this to share and feed others who are less fortunate.
