Types of Portable PCs
You can use portable PCs while traveling, at home or any other place of choice. Portable PCs are highly used in fields such as education, science and business, among* others. In a desktop PC the monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers are attached separately and the components are easier to upgrade. The user can also add more RAM, bigger hard drive, or a new DVD drive. Desktop PC is very cheap as compared to laptops. The components are integrated in a laptops and it is very difficult to upgrade these components. It is also very difficult to add more Ram, bigger hard drive or a new DVD drive.
Types of Portable PCs
Portable PCs vary in size and features. One type of portable PC is laptop that is comparable to a briefcase in size and structure. Notebooks and subnotebooks are smaller versions of laptops; Palmtop is small enough that you can hold it in the palm of your hand.
A Laptop is a portable computer that can perform all tasks carried out by a desktop computer. This type of computer is small enough to fit on the lap of a person, hence the name is derived. You can use a laptop to create programs, multimedia applications, word documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. A laptop is like a briefcase in structure and you can carry it around wherever you go.
Notebook is an extremely small and lightweight version of portable computer. They can fit into a briefcase and can be carried around. Currently, notebooks and laptops are virtually the same in most aspects. Notebooks use flat panel technologies to produce a light weight display screen.
Subnotebooks are a smaller and lighter version of notebooks. They generally have smaller keyboards and screens as compared to notebooks. Subnotebooks usually have external drives and may have the serial and parallel ports on an external device.
As the name suggests, palmtops are computers that you can carry around on the palm of your hand. These computers use a pen/stylus for input. Keyboards are not used to input data in palmtops. Most palmtops do not have disk drives because of their size limitations. Palmtops are also known as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), hand-held computers or pocket computers.
